2 Questions - Clasp & UC
Question 1: Does constantly opening & closing the clasp wear it out quicker. Is taking it on & off twice a day too much or should I limit how many times I put it on so I don't have to take it off as often? I have a DJII.
Question 2: Do I need an ultrasonic cleaner, I do want one which is the best or most recommended one? I am in the UK. Thanks people |

The new clasp is better. The AD told me that the new design with the spring system actually does less friction so there is less wear. The spring allows the crown to move back slightly and return it in place once the clasp is closed. It's a really cool system.

1. Of course it wears it out.. If stuff didn't wear out it would be a very lonely landfill. Twice a day is hardly "too much".
2. No, you do not need an Ultrasonic cleaner.

On and off twice a day should have no effect. Wear it without worry. My father in law has one bought in 1963 by his father. How many times you think that's been opened and closed? Still works fine.

I have an Explorer II with an Oyster Fliplock Clasp and it gets open three sometimes for times a day without there being a long term issue

I wouldn't imagine there'd be a problem with regular opening and closing.

Goodness! Only open and close it only once a day, and spare the repair woes...
...to your great-great-great-great grandson! I don't think you'll have to worry about it until you are just a forgotten name high up in the family tree. |
