Would you trade?
Hello everyone. I currently have a rolex 14060 two liner and a pp 5167. Over the years I have found that I only enjoy a two maybe three watch max collection. When I have more than two watches I feel bad for not wearing them enough and I feel I could really live without them. Although my goal is to have my 5167, an AP 15202 (or a 15300 in its place if I can find a mint example) and a rolex, model undecided.
Lately I have been wearing my 5167 90% of the time and my sub when I'm doing more hazardous activities. :) So I have been floating the idea of trading my sub + about 2k for a polar explorer ii 42mm. I think I would wear the exp more as it's white dial is a big change up from the 5167. And when I get an AP I'll have a black white and blue dial watch. So as I write this thread I'm talking myself more into this idea. So just curious if you were in my shoes would you trade the sub + cash for the new polar exp ii? In the end I know it's up to me but would live to hear some thoughts. Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Two line Sub...could be hard to say get rid of it. Polar Exp isn't too shabby (I own it myself and wear regularly) and I think you'd be very happy with that as well. But they are in current production and fairly easy to get.
It's all perspective but when going between the Exp and a Nautilus, the Nautilus would seem small to me. I got over it, but it did bug me for a while. Is your Sub complete? Box/papers, known ownership history? Those types of things could be hard to re-acquire if you let this one go and decide you made a mistake. |

I would do the trade:
1. $2k seems pallpark to me 2. 2nd time zone feature on the ex2 3. a white dial, to me, is a classic look (think pocket watches) But, then again, I like my ex2. |

A white dial is a nice change, although I'm not a fan of the ExpII. How about an Oyster Perpetual? Simple, understated, an uncluttered silver dial, brushed oyster bracelet.
To answer your question directly, I would not do it, can't comment on the cash, only my feelings on the watch. And a two line Sub is nice as a collector, but most people don't care. But...love that PP, just love it! I'd trade a lot of hardware for one of those.

I would trade an used 14060 + $2K for a BNIB 116570. Unless your Sub has sentimental values, the trade is pretty even and will allow you to enjoy something new.

Not a chance I'd do that trade. I'm not sure I'd even trade your sub for a polar exp2 straight up ...
I guess it depends on you, but if it were me I would not. Good luck deciding. |

I would not trade for the 42 exp + cash. But I'd trade it for a 40mm polar straight up...

Not a big fan of the 42mm Expys....bought the black dial when it was released, but released it after about 6 months...keep the 2-liner classic!

I would either keep the Sub, or look at replacing it with a 40 mm EXPII polar. A 42mm looks like it will fit you, but if you ever start to think the 5167 is small and sell it, THAT you will CERTAINLY regret!

I would not do the trade but consider the 40mm Exp II instead.

Thanks for your opinions so far. Sounds like most here would not part with the sub. Some good points made. Still undecided

I love my sub's to ever trade, the new upgraded bracelets are icings !
However it seems like u've already made ur decisions , trading/flipping is always a good experience to get it out of ur system if ur initial thought was to do it. I'd say u already answered ur self, go with ur instinct and be happy, happiness is all that matters |

So a sub is more desirable... Yes....
The general consensus will be don't do the trade as the sub is iconic... Think of it this way, a watch that you don't wear but is iconic or a watch that you will wear and is not so iconic... A 2 liner is not a super rare bird, plenty around, so if you miss it, it can be bought back.. In my opinion do the trade...

Thanks again everyone. At this point I think I'll hold on to my sub and add an explorer down the road.

I wouldn't but if you truly feel good about it go for it! For me stick with what you have.

There are two rules to life:
1. Never sell your Rolex Sub 2. Never sell your old Triumph motorcycle. The 16570 can be had for about 4K. I would save up the other 2K and buy one. But that is just me. ;-) Lawrence |
