Which Rolex to Take on Holiday? (SS GMT II vs TT SubC vs RG Daytona)

Guys,

I will be going on holiday to Spain, France, Italy and Switzwerland next December....cant decide which watch to take with me?

SS GMT II --> Nice to have the second timezone feature + flying under the radar

TT SubC --> Rugged, built like a tank, Perfect for the rainy days in Europe

RG Daytona --> Newly acquired, cant take it off, but too flashy for holiday

Glad to hear your opinions guys,

Sub and GMT. Now you have the best of both, a little bling and knowing the time at home.

I voted GMT. I suppose it depends if you'll be diving, racing a car or just site seeing.

I agree. GMT is the one to take, if you only take one. Even if you take more than one, make sure one of them is the GMT.

GMT. Otherwise you are asking to get robbed in places like Barcelona and Italy.

I just returned from 4 weeks in Spain, I wore the Sea-Dweller 4000 24/7.

Is it really that bad? Even for a TT SubC?

Thanks in advance for the warning....

Wait, what? I'm heading to Italy, once again, at the end of the month to Bormio to climb all the famous mountain passes of the Giro on my Italian Colnago. Italy is incredibly safe. I've been a lot of places in my favorite country in Europe and don't give even a second thought to wearing a nice watch there. You must only go to Naples.

On topic - the GMT is a travel watch of course.

The vast majority of places in Italy are fine, but it all depends on where you are and what you are doing. If you in a bigger city, look like a tourist and wearing a $35K gold Rolex together with short sleeves, wondering aimlessly with a map, you are asking for trouble.

When I was in Barcelona a few weeks ago, with some local friends and family, they asked me cover roll down my sleeve over the Sea-Dweller at certain instances.

Well, it all depends on who you are, how you dress, where you go and at what time.

None of those European countries are really that dangerous per se, but Barcelona tends to the be home of Eastern European and/or Latin American organized pick-pocket gangs. They'll remove your wallet and/or watch so fast that you won't know what happened to you, pass it on to a collaborator, who will pass it on and they will be gone in 2 seconds. Now that will happened if you are walking down La Rambla in Barcelona on a busy Friday evening wearing short sleeves and a big tourist camera. It is all about situational awareness.

Now Italy is a totally different story. The thugs are literally sitting on motorbikes in Napoli waiting for the American tourists to arrive on the crusing ships. They'll bump you on the head, take your belongings and jump on the waiting motorbike and be gone.

Now it all depends... you are there in December so it will be chilly, thus you'll be wearing long sleeves, jackets, etc. Are you planning to walk around a lot by yourself or are part of a larger group? Are you staying at 5 star hotels and only visiting select attractions?

At the end of the day, better safe than sorry. A nice and insured GMT will do the trick, why risk it by wearing something flashy?
