Wow, looking at the SDDS like that from an angle, you can just see how big of a beast that watch is. I'm sure that case is at least 10 mm thick from just looking at the pictures!! The enormous case size makes the dial look pretty small actually.

The domed sapphire crystal does not look to bad. I always loved the flat crystals but the domed one is starting to grow on me.

Oh yeah, at least the center links on the bracelet are not polished!!!!

I'm still trying to get used to the dial reading 12,800 feet. Wow that is an astonishing depth!!! THe only watches with a deeper depth rating is the Bell and Ross Hydro Challenger and Rolex Deep Sea Special itself.

There is no way that anyone can wear a watch with "original gas escape valve" written on it and keep a straight face especially in the UK where we have toilet based humour!!. Is this an anti flatulence device that Rolex have patented?

I guess there is still plenty of space on the bracelet for them to engrave pointless verbiage for next years model. I mean how many words are actually on that thing to distract you from telling the time.

That DEEPSEA model is OK. I just don't like that chapter ring engraved, look too much for me. And the size (44-45mm) and the estimate value (rumour said around 9,5k!!!) What a price for that tool watch!!! Do Rolex want competitive with Fifty Fathoms model (Blancpain)?

IMO, I think owners of the SDDS will get used to the OGEV / RLS writing. I know the more I look at it the less obtrusive it seems to be. And that domed crystal is just WAY cool looking!

Does anybody notice how the crown logo above the word "Rolex" looks slightly different from all the other models? The heights of the circles are different.

When I saw the extra text in there I thought it was done in photoshop by one of the members. Egads Rolex saw the GMT done up to be authentic with confirmatino on every dag blam part and they took it literally!

JJ, I fully agree with your wife!!! Not only is this watch great looking but there are many other vicarious benefits to its exceptional depth capabilities.
I'm guessing this watch will hold up exceptionally well to many different environments and conditions thrown at it. From the summer weekend adventurer in the humid climes of Kentucky, the bitter cold of a Maine winter to the intense shade of a tropical umbrella drink in Key West....this time piece will excell. This WILL be my next watch!! It's rugged, manly, I suspect as dependable as my 40 yr old GMT and my wife liked it, too!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will I be stylin' with it at the Derby this year?? No, but maybe someday.
