Frostie, why can't you just send someone in the US.the funds and have them buy it for you and ship it to you? Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper that way? I would do it for you in a heartbeat!

I am not going to buy the watch but if i ever buy a watch as i have said many times i would prefer to buy it from the US. In fact i am going to buy the explorer II black dial from the US

The thing that i can't understand is why are europeans paying so much? Is this happening because of the high taxation here?

If you need assistance with your Expy II purchase, please don't hesitate to ask!

As far as your question, I really have no idea.

I will start looking for one at the beginning of octomber so i still have enough time.

The value added tax here is 19% so that can be an explanation

What about customs? Although sometimes, even taking that into account, is worth it to buy in the US.....

So let me get this right.

Rolex takes a perfectly good watch and makes it better and doubles the price. Am I the only one that thinks we are getting the Shaft. Don't get me wrong I really like the new Sea Dweller but come on. I have a hard time with $5000 for the Non date Sub. But I tell my self I will do it because it is the one thing that I really want. But Over $11,000 for a watch that everyone will be afraid to get a scratch on. Rolex is doing nothing but pricing them out of reach. I know you get qualitly for a price. But Rolex is starting to not add up. At some point people are going to say they are just not worth it. No one but the people that can afford them are making them cost so much in the first place. This will happen to the Sud in time. I am getting to the point were soon I will not Be a fan of Rolex. It is all about money now. They are not doing us any favors by improving a product and then selling it for twice as much. Would you still be a fan of a Cadillac or any thing for that matter if the came out with a new model then doubel the price and then made that the only one avalible to buy. Jim

Good thoughts there but since the watch business is the luxury business and the brand name this was expected IMO

There are many other high end companies there that are establishing a good name out there Patek vacheron etc. and rolex is putting the prices up so that they can protect their image and not look like a cheap watch or watch designed for the masses with superb quality though

Not the point

Their image is set in stone. Is their resitence to change not the very reason they are what they are. It is for me! If I want some thing different then I will buy another brand. But I want a Rolex because they are different. Everyone copies Rolex. It seems to me that Rolex is now trying to copy everyone else. I know change is inevitable. Simplicity is elegance. With the current Rolex crop at Basel this year how many can say they like the way Rolex is going.

I agree. Rolex hasn't really come up with anything revolutionary in the last 20 years. They are still riding on the oyster and trip lock technology that pretty much any mid range watch would have. So executives of Rolex, listen to us!

the uk price on timezone is listed at 4750 pounds and that includes the sales tax.does anyone know the sales tax there, and if history is correct the usa price should be less than the uk price right.we might see it for around $7k,wishfull thinking i know.

We pay more so they can keep prices "low" in the USA. Same with cars and other stuff. That's a BIG marquet, my friend.

In what denomination is $11,177, because if its DEM then that equates to approximately 9K American.
Lets check before we activate the panic button.
On TZ it's listed to be 4700 GBP ,with tax, that's $9370 American.

My thoughts also JJ. I Like alot of the new stuff. But they did it to the GMT. A new one at almost twice the price and no more old one. Now the SD. And then the Sub is next. My main reason for my Love of Rolex is that their style has always been timeless. Why mess with success. I know things change but I'm not an old fart yet. To many things are changing in all of life and not for the good. The prices are becoming unrealalistic. Do you want a watch because of the quality or because you want to say it's expensive. The second choice says alot about a person. And not in a good way I feel; Jim

The prices of watches seems to have gone off the absolutely insane. I was wanting a Patek which had a price increase in February, my AD called to say prices are going up again next month so to buy now. I don't remember what the last increase was but the next one would cost me $7000 more for the same watch so I would guess at least a $10000+ price jump since January.

The one good thing about a price as high as that is that there should be an ample supply of them in the AD's showcase.

Other than the die-hards, I think most will just buy the Subs.

At $11,000 for an SS, you could be looking at other TT models, etc.........

Anyone know how much the Australian price will be? If you get 7100 euros we'll be similar like $11k?

The "improvements" Rolex makes to the line are marginal at best. Rolex has gone far in the direction of gaudi bling-bling and backwards in the direction of truly useful tool technology (the mere insinuation of a human being wearing a watch externally to time a dive at a depth of 3.9 kilometers below the surface of the ocean is asinine). Even Omega added a real piece of mechanical technology to their line (co-axial escapement), and the price increase was reasonable. Honestly, what is different about the $5850 Subdate of today versus the $3350 Subdate of 4 years ago?

I like my Rolex watches and they would be the last ones I would sell. But I agree with the others who have said it's time to give Rolex the boot and be happy with what we have - Rolex long ago crossed over the line from high quality for high price to tired technology at an insultingly greedy price.
