Active Rolex
I am the ultimate watch tester.
I run about 40 km a week (25 miles), swim twice a week (sea & pool), play basketball and ride the bike with my kids, dive twice a year and sky dive once in a while. Oh, and I never take my watch off (only when I have a massage). The BLNR has taken all this in the past year and is now looking for a brother to share the burden. I have a datejust II, but I think a sport Rolex is more suitable. These are the options: 1. Sub 2. SD4000 3. DSSD 4. DSSD D-Blue. 5. ? 6. ? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. |

I'll give you first hand experience on the rolex sport models.
1. Stainless steel yachtmaster ii or deepsea. 2. rose and steel yachtmaster ii 3. Gold and steel sub (Blue) 4. Gold yachtmaster ii 5. Everrose Daytona 6. Platinum Daytona In my opinion these are the best options for sport models, let me know your thoughts. |

Gosh you really do put them through their paces!!
First thing to ask, have you tried the DSSD? Fantastic piece, and solid, but with all that added case depth, it may get a little in the way whilst doing all of these activities. For that reason, I would recommend the SDc or the Subc, can't go wrong with either watches, and the glidelock extension is great too. Let us know what you decide.. Dino

I'd think about a 114270 36mm Explorer. Light, tough, classic.

You take your Rolex off when getting a massage? That is dangerous!
http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/04/...7371396356273/ anyway, a SubC or DSSD, Explorer II

If I was putting my Rolex watches through all that I'd leave them on for the massage.

Deepsea! The most rugged, robust and ready for anything sport watch.
SD4k is a very close second if you don't want the size that the DSSD packs. |

If it is the dive function that you need included and the DSSD is too big for all of your other activities (which I would agree with that it probably is) then you only have 2 options really. Sea Dweller or Sub. The only way to decide is to try them on an decide if the SD is also too hefty for you or not.
I have tried on a SD but it was wrapped in so much protective plastic that I could not get a good feel for it, so I would go SubC |

If sized properly, it really does have good balance on the wrist and you have the availability of tweaking the fit without even taking it off. It would take a day or two to get used to the size compared to your BLNR but then you wouldn't even notice.
I plan on adding the D Blue as soon as I get the call. Good luck with all the choices. |

I would go with the ExpII White Dial if I was you.
It can take whatever you can throw at it. Actually, It was made for people as active as you. It's a very rugged piece and beautiful in either black or white dials. I personally prefer the white dial. It was my first piece |

But you said you only dive a couple times a year and your current BLNR lacks the dive function as well.
All my sport Rolexes are in the ocean year round because we live at the beach, I mountain bike with them multiple times a week, and my wife and I climb and backcountry ski about 40 days a year with them. My go to Rolex is my 216570. My 16600 and 116610 tied for a close second as a play watch. My 214270 and 1601 are my "dress" watches. At the end of the day, you cannot make a bad decision.

I do love the sub especially the bi colour in blue, even though the deepsea is bigger it does feel a lot better on. explorer never has appealed to me, just doesn't have that wow factor. imo

Run 25 miles a week with aDSSD on the wrist?.....doesnt sound fun to me.
How about a black face ss daytona? Cool looks that can dress up or down and still takes on what you throw at it. |

I'd say Sub 114060. Or a SD4000 if you want to get the date function/pay the 25% premium.

You might want to throw a Tudor Pelagos into the mix. It's quite a bit different than anything else on your list, and cheap. I think the weight of a DSSD would get tiresome, not to mention you could knock someone out with it on the basketball court!

+1 on the Pelagos. A great watch with advantages over the Sub. and more like the SD.

The heft is unnecessary to carry if you are doing something so strenuous, especially when you play basketball. BLNR is good but like all the modern ceramic watches in Rolex sports lineup, its hefty and doesn't suit performance sport. If I were you, I would do it all with 16610 or 16710. Even better if you have a Nato band on those two. I play tennis/run wearing 16610(with oyster band/Nato).
