Dropped sub - question

Dropped my sub during a strap change about 4 feet onto a hardwood floor. No visible signs of damage. Would a fall like that likely damage the mechanism or seals? Should I have it pressure tested? Going to time it over the next 2 days to see if accuracy has been impacted.

A pressure test can't hurt.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the gaskets, I would just monitor it and make sure it's keeping accurate time. If so then you should be all right. Sooner or later we all drop our watches and these babies are built to take it...

I would shake it lightly and see if you can hear a strange rotor grinding sound. Happens to me with a sub years ago and the rotor jewel broke.

Not on my Rolex but I did this to a titanium Panerai. Thought it was OK. Approx a tear later I noticed the hands corroding ....Id get it pressure tested. You will have piece of mind then.
Good luck

I knocked my LV sub once pretty hard. It looked fine but it started running 5 min fast per day. I took it in and it had knocked a jewel loose in the movement.
You may want to get it checked out.

Curious to know if you experience any ill effects. I dropped my 14060, on carpeting the other day. Didn't give it a second thought. These are tough watches, just the same there must be a limit to drop shock.

My Explorer II fell from my wardrobe - about 220cm. I immediately took her in for a full service.

Sometimes you can get unlucky where your rotor will become dislodged, which effects the efficiency of the winding mechanism leading to inaccurate time keeping. As others have suggested, keep an eye on it for any erratic behaviour. Ironically, as WISs, we know when our watches are misbehaving

Picked it up today. Hairspring needed to be repaired. Anyone know exactly what that means? Movement adjusted and also pressure tested. Back on my wrist now.

Hairspring is on the balance wheel. It's (balance) what oscillates back and forth, and is the "heart" of the movement.

Paid 100 for the repair. Seems reasonable. Is that a fair price?

I dropped my 216570 a few weeks ago, was putting the watch on, and for some reason it just slipped right out of my hand, fell about 4 feet or so, flat on its face on the hardwood floor. Still works perfectly and not a mark either. It happens.

Same happened to mine, I think the coils on the hair spring bind up by coming out of their positions in the spiral wind. I glad you're back to normal. My local watch maker fixed mine, but it's running faster than it used to. Before it fell it was virtually spot on.

Do you realize swinging your arm and say hitting a door jam with your watch generates more force than dropping it?
Before you dropped your watch when was the last time you accuracy checked it? What I am wondering is was the spring bad before the drop?

I always tell people if your in doubt of authenticity take your rolex in question and throw at the wall as hard as you can. If it survives its a real rolex. If it explodes its a Fugazzi! In your case you know its real and it only sustained a relatively small fall. I would continue with business as usual. Hope this helps.
