Yachtmaster II, Sky Dweller & DD II Opinions Sought
Hello everyone!
I fairly new to this forum, but have been reading the threads daily as I really enjoy the photos, reviews, and opinions from everyone. After having done such, I rarely see anyone post about the Yachtmaster II. I am interested in why there are so few posts about it and so many repetitive posts about the usual suspects (Sub C, GMT, DSSD, etc.). Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing these watches a great deal, but not extremely excited about owning one as so many others already do and these seem to be relatively easy (price wise) to buy. I am interested in picking up a YG Rolex for my next piece, but I am undecided between the Yachtmaster II, Sky Dweller, and the DD II. I would like to read what everyone thinks about these particular watches, which they might choose, and why? Also, would love to know if you own a Yachtmaster II, why you choose it over other options. I really look forward to hearing your responses. As a side note, I'm not too concerned with the large size of the Yachtmaster II as I am 6'2" 235lbs. P.S. Currently, I own a Chronograph Cartier Roadster and TT Sub w/champagne serti dial. |

Welcome to TRF, I'm sure you'll get lots of responses from qualified owners of the pieces you mentioned. If it were me, I'd look at the GMT 718 as well.

I have both the skydweller and the yachmaster 2....if you want YG, I would go YM2. I prefer the Skydweller in WG, which is what I own.

Started with this beast and I felt a YG DD2 would be duplicative.
So what's a guy to do? SkD wasn't an option as they just didn't sing to me. |

I think these 3 model do not get the air time as they are at the higher end of the pricing form Rolex.
DDII is a classic and one I would own tomorrow if I had the cash. The sky dweller is growing on me with the black dial. I find the YM2 far to busy for my tastes and don't like the bezel. But i am sure other feel very differently.

I went with the YG DDII as the Sky Dweller had not yet been invented, and more importantly, I think the President is The quintessential Rolex. In the years that I've owned my DDII, I've had the opportunity to see all the watches in person, hold them in my hand, wear them on my wrist. Let me say that the watches look, feel, and wear much different in person than they do in the photos you'll see here. So please go to an AD and spend some serious time with all the pieces you are considering before taking the plunge.
Good luck!!! |

Thanks for the advice! The DDII is a great watch with a lot of history and tradition. Classy choice!

As my man Sam has done, and I did too, maybe go for a RG DDII and then a YG sports watch next like the YMII.

Seems to me the DDII is the most traditional of the three and most likely to have the greatest liquidity if resale is an issue. For me the other two have no real appeal as beautiful as they may be.

You can't go wrong with either, I would say try all of them on if you have access to a dealer that have them in stock and take it from there.
Yacht II gets my vote

I have tried them all on and IMO, the Day Date 2, fits the smallest and the lightest of them all.

I would remove the Sky Dweller of the competition and ask yourself if you want a Sporty Rolex (YMII) or a classic Rolex (DDII)? And then you have your answer.

Between the DDII and the Sky, I would--and did--go DDII. All day.
Now between the YMII and the DDII...that's much tougher, IMO. Both of these beauties have drool-worthy written all over every mm of them. I would agree with Jorge, you just need to decide sporty or classic and go with that one. |
