I think someone round here should do the same with Rolex watches onto tile floors. Any volunteers?

This is why I probably will not be getting the 6. By the time you put it in a case, it will be a big as my Ipad. A 6+ with a case will be like a carrying a macbook air. No thanks.

Now, "supposedly" the 6s will be available in a "nearly unbreakable" sapphire glass option. For something this big, I'll need to go case-less. This MAY be an option, but only time will tell...

Looking more and more like I will just upgrade my 5 to the 5s and be done with it.

I've had my iphone in a case for the past 4 versions, so no real difference for me. Without the case, the 6 almost felt too thin, if that is possible.

I've been caseless on an iPhone 4, 5, and now 6. No problems so far, and I'm not changing now. I do have apple care so its a $50 gamble if something happens. I'm ok with that.

I'm just careful and avoid letting my kids play with it. All glass breaks if dropped on concrete.

Edit. I do usually use an otter box case for a camping weekend.

I had a play with the 6 and 6+ yesterday.

The 6+ is out of the question and the 6 would still be too big a change in habits.

The smaller 5c is my pick.

The 5c is far too much of a compromise to recommend. It's basically two years old. Paying that kinda money for an old phone is not my first choice. Buy used if you don't want the latest and greatest.

Cases make these phones look ridiculous and I have no idea why people care about the looks if they will have it covered in rubber and plastic.

I've never had a case and stopped using screen protectors since the iPhone 3G. I've dropped my phones on granite floors, asphalt roads, and concrete sidewalks but haven't had more than a ding on body.

If the screen breaks, take it to the genius bar for replacement. If you have a good enough story, they'll replace it for free. If they won't, buy Applecare plus on ebay and pay $75 for the replacement glass

I don't care what my phones looks like, that's why I always buy an Otter Box for mine.

I don't buy iPhones, but if I did, well, the fact is, I wouldn't, so it doesn't matter.

I am not surprised this fool managed to break two iphones by dropping them on concrete For 7.5m views and considering he probably has insurance I shouldn't be calling him a fool.

I don't do rubbers on my iphone. Ruins the all the fun.

Fair enough. People that buy otterbox's do so without any regard to appearance, clearly

The silicone cases Ive seen for these new phones aren't that big or bulky. I agree the 6+ looked like a smaller version of an iPad mini. LOL

Maybe the iPhone 7 will live up to the hype. I still cannot get over that it still has an 8MP camera. really?

Samsung is already toying with 55MP.

Is pixel count your gauge of camera quality? I have a Nikon D700 with 12.1 megapixels and will guarantee it will take better pictures that any 55 megapixel samsung phone.

Even in an apples-to-apples comparison, the iPhone still beat all the other camera phones. http://gizmodo.com/the-best-smartpho...ium=socialflow

I think from a mass-consumer perspective pixel-count means a lot, especially when it comes down to a final purchase decision. We're talking about mass-consumers here - avid photographers who understand the science are the exception.

The iPhone didn't win the contest that you provided a link to, the Lumia did, out of the 6 disciplines set the winners were.

Detail: Lumia
Colour/Tone: iPhone6/5
Low Light: Lumia
Flash: HTC One
Autofocus: Galaxy S5
HDR: Galaxy S5

Quote: Among our contenders, we think the Lumia 1020 is the highest achiever, with its crisp detail, great low light performance, and good flash. Unfortunately, some out there may prefer to take photos with a log (or HTC One M8) than use a Windows Phone as their daily driver. If you're one of them, the natural color and low-light chops of the iPhone 6 win out. It was a bit of a surprise to not see more of a bump in performance in the iPhone 6 over the 5s; there was an improvement in low light, but other than that there was nothing separating the two. Still, it stands out as the most well-rounded alternative. Unquote.

In fairness though, I always managed to get better photos (IMHO) with my iPhones than I have managed with my Galaxy phones, it may be just me but I found taking photos with the iPhone more intuitive and somewhat easier and I preferred the end product (the photo) better than I do with my S5.

I copied and pasted the wrong link. I meant to post a link to a business insider article comparing the iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, and Moto X but I'm too lazy to google it now

I've done the same thing many times.

Edit:

I found the test that I think you meant to reference and agree the iPhone wins this one, I think it is also a better test (IMHO).

It is a shame that Apple care + is only available in the USA.

Edit: I have just checked and found that it is now available in the UK at £79 fee, with an excess of £55, so all in all £134 to repair a cracked screen, but still better than the alternatives of living with a cracked screen or buying a new phone (IMHO).

I don't use a case for my phone and must admit that if I dropped it on the pavement,(or any other phone from any of the manufacturers for that matter) I would expect the worse, I would pick it up expecting a broken or cracked screen.

Cheaper surely just to get a non-oem screen installed if it breaks? The quality is good on the ones we've had.

I've smashed 2 screens since the wife reclaimed the rubber gucci sleeve i'd borrowed from her. Last i looked it was somewhere around 50gbp to have a pro replace the screen. I did the last one myself following a video guide on youtube and it took around an hour, bought the screen/digitizer from ebay for about 22gbp.

My nephew gave me his iPhone 5. He said, "just test drive it and see if you like it." I like the fact that it is used; I like the fact that it calls, texts, and I can check my MLB scores and rumors. But, to be honest, don't know if I would drop a few dimes on a new one--even if it's bigger. Apple has a recall on this particular phone: a new power-on/off button, and a new battery. Apple offered me $305 for the phone the way it is, although it would be toward a new phone. I don't know yet. The only reason I would consider keeping this phone is for the tests I would run for a mobile app I'm thinking of creating. Never done such a thing, but I'm really interested in trying. I can do some basic hand-rolled coding, but nothing like this. I do have a Macbook Air, which will allow me to do this. Anyway, we'll see. (I've got my eyes on an HTC One M8...ahhh.)

I had an HTC one M7 back in the day. If I could have put iOS on that phone, I would have kept it forever.
