I attached a link to the WW 2 plane crash the I hiked to in Upstate NY.
I also attached my Airking Pic near part of the plane. This crash was in 1944 and I thought the Airking would be a period correct watch (if you know the AK history) as I believe it was first introduced to be used by pilots of the British AF during that time.
Please feel free to correct or add and info on the history. I also have never seen a pic of an AK that old if someone would like to post.

Actually most RAF pilots were issued 6B/159s (Air Ministry number) which were either Omega or Longine, or even Jeager La Coutre watches (non-hacking movement) - the AM also issued the Longines Weems to a few lucky pilots. RAF navigators and bombardiers were also issued the AM issued stopwatch as well.

If the pilot lost his 6B/159 (enemy action or his own fault) then he was given the 6B/234 and generally then pilot had his pay docked to pay for the missing watch. The 6B/234s were good watches with hacking movements this time.

Very interesting photo indeed.

The AK was introduced in 1945 just as things were winding down in Europe. The watch was never specifically designed for pilots but instead to honor the RAF in the Battle of Brittain. However, since it was oversized for its day, I'm sure some were used by pilots. I've used mine while flying small aircraft, it's perfectly capable.

For time based navigation, all a pilot or navigator needs is a good watch. A chrono is helpful but unnecessary. Let alone a fly back!

I m not a geocacher, just happened to see the link when looking for history of the plane crash. I m not even a hiker really, 1o hours of hiking that day

, no trails either.
