Steak in NYC

Hello good people of TRF!

Off to the Big Apple next month, and looking for a nice Steakhouse.

I've seen Peter Lugers mention on here often, and it certainly looks good, but wondered if you have any other recommendations?

Cheers.

You have the "palm" on west 50th street, and one on 2nd ave. between 44 & 45th street.
The Old Homestead on 9th ave. and 14th street.
And Sparks steakhouse! On E46 street btw. 2nd & 3rd ave. price wise, $$$, but worth every penny imo. But there are many more to choose. These are where I go with my wife.
Good luck and SAFE TRIP!

I have always thought Luger's was overrated, especially as it's not very convenient to get to and only takes cash (unless you get their own credit card).

I would stick to the City...here are my choices:

The Palm (One) - a classic...maybe the most iconic steakhouse IMO

Keens - super old school with a great backstory (was an old smoking club - Teddy Roosevelt was a member) and offers a mutton chop which, if you like lamb, is off the charts

Strip House (the one in greenwich village) - built in an old bordello so has a very loungey vibe...red velvet booths, etc

+1 for Keens

If you want steak with an ethnic twist, I highly recommend Buenos Aires in the East Village for Argentine beef or Prime and Beyond also in the East Village for Korean/Asian steak.

This. They also have the playbill from when Lincoln was killed.

Not a traditional steakhouse, but Minetta Tavern has some of the best steaks around. Amazing, but a tough reservation to get unless you go early or late.

Edit: Del Friscos is also very good, but as mentioned it is very much a tourist attraction. Great space though.

Thanks, yes, I thought there would be plenty of choice in the City, as opposed to a cab ride to Luger's.

Homestead was pretty good a couple years ago. Les Halles is excellent.

FYI wolfgangs in nyc is not a wolfgang puck establishment. It is a steakhouse started by a guy who worked for peter lugers for many years.

I thought the same initially.

OP: if you plan to visit lugers, make a reservation well in advance. As much as a month.

Peter Lugar is great, but what's even better is the bacon and even their desserts are awesome.

My new favorite NYC steakhouse, excellent cuts of meat priced below the competitors with service that is top notch. West Side Steakhouse 597 10th Avenue, between 43rd and 44th street. Owner tends bar.
