WIS My car costs less than my watch thread
That is one line I never thought I would use, had sold my car and was looking for a mint 997 911, then I took into consideration where I live, old neighborhood, narrow streats, sandstone gutters, car lives under the house but exposed to ocean air and a reality that I now do around 12000miles a year, so made a last minute left field dash for something more location appropriate, cheap to run, super quick point to point, and unlikely to have much residual depreciation as they are becoming a collectors car.
Appreciate many in the USA used to wide straight roads wont appreciate my flying hot hatch. Not sure if it constitutes a mid life crisis car given I am in my 40's and have had 3 Porsches before and am now driving the cheapest car I have owned since i was a teenager. And yes it genuinely cost me within $500 of my Aquanaut. I know in the past some members have shown pictures of their car that is cheaper than their watch, so I thought for a change from is it safe to wear me watch in.... might be fun for a laugh to post cars genuinely cheaper than my watch. Tom may well post a picture of his Platona and 996 Cup car, but either way hopefully it get a laugh.

My Rolex watch collection cost more than my car, by a few hundred, I imagine.
I'm not sure I'll be buying any watches in that price range, but there are a couple I do admire.

The 'Family Hack' (which I love and can't bear to part with) is 20yrs old and worth about as much as a fairly rough, 10 yr old Air King.
I am particular about my cars so it is in excellent condition but worth almost nothing on the car market. If you could see the way the hicks drive in this neck of the woods you would understand that I just love being in a car that is worth almost nothing.

A guy in the bluegrass circle walks around with a fiddle that cost more than my house!
And most of the acoustic guitars are worth more than a good used DJ. Some more than a modern DD. |

Fits right in with down town Sydney Craig, and I know just how tight the roads and parking can be in your home area mate.......
Nothing wrong with it though. Just sold my prized Escalade as I was no longer using it due to work commitments and company vehicles etc... So I'm now just putting it down to 'Growing up'.. or is that 'Growing Older'????????

I'm driving an old 2005 F150 Lariat that's well cared for, so no need to have the latest and greatest. I tend to be cheap when it comes to high depreciation items.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a car that costs less than a watch. A watch of a certain variety will always preserve some nominal value--have you seen a Daytona in excellent condition selling for less than $8K?--while a majority of cars will quickly deteriorate unless you spend enormous money on storage upkeep and restoration. Moreover, you can always take your watch with you wherever you go or pass it along to your relatives and friends.

Definitely my car, in Singapore a Japanese made 1.6L car will set you back by 91k USD after government taxes and duties.

Really, how are the taxes there? It's crazy here. Hence a watch to me is more worth collecting! Cars in Singapore can only be driven for 10 years. After which it's value of that 1.6 L Japanese car will be worth only 4000 usd after 10 years of usage........
