Deepsea advice. New vs. Used.

I am going to purchase a Deepsea and want some advice on new versus used in mint condition. I really don't have a preference on a new or used and from what I can see online, it doesn't seem like there is much difference in price between a mint condition vs new. If that is the case, I might as well go with a new one, right? Am I missing anything? What's the best price for a new watch new from an AD?

I personally prefer to buy new because I am the only owner, and no one else has worn the watch. Plus you have the full warranty with your name on the card. If you look at prices on here, like you wrote, it really is not that much more. The best price from an AD is what you are able to negotiate. Good luck on your hunt!

If there is not much in it, I would buy new, most of my watches are used but only where there is difference.

I am The same boat, I want to get a Deepsea as well. Most of the Deepsea I have seen for sale on this forum new (grey market) and used are thousands less than a new one from an AD... Except for the blue one, which are more expensive than what I have been quoted from AD in Los angeles, go figure...

All the watches here BNIB are not gray market. You can order a new one with a US card, and your name on it!

The deep blue is only $300 more than the black dial DSSD.

I have owned two DSSD and purchased both from trusted sellers here. One new and one pre-owned but under warranty. I saved significantly from the AD prices I was quoted. The price difference is two fold. The difference on the purchase should be $500-800 on a new versus a almost new pre-owned but the other price to figure is if you should try to sell or trade, the price difference will be significant. So what appears to be a reasonable front end cost, on the back end could end up being that cost or more. So if you keep the watch, not a big deal. If you move on from the watch you could face a loss that might not be so good. If it was me I would contact a Trusted Seller here and purchase a pre-owned DSSD as close to new as I could find.

You'll do much better with either new or slightly used with trusted sellers here. I recently purchased my d-blue from DavidSW and couldn't have been happier with the watch, the experience or the price.

You will need to get the bracelet sized. Can either stop by any decent dealer and they'll do so for you for a nominal fee or, if you're the slightest bit handy, check out any of the threads here on sizing, order a 1.6 mm hollow ground screwdriver and purple loctite from Amazon and you'll appreciate being able to "play around" with the different options (removing extension or not, which sides to take link from, etc.)

If there isn't a big discount for getting used, then get new. The idea of being the original owner, with a pristine watch, is worth a small premium.

The AD also offered an additional 1 year warranty and he offered to cover the first service which is he said costs $700. Unless I can get a crazy deal on a used which really doesn't happen, I might as well get a new one.

I was going to see if I can get him down to $10k. Would you all agree that is a good price with an additional 1 year warranty and he will cover the first service?

PM DavidSW or one of the other trusted sellers here. Tell them you are looking for BNIB; see what price they give you. You may be surprised to find it less than your AD price even with the service thrown in. Either way, you're in for a treat. It's an amazing watch

On the DSSD I would get it used, as it is a watch you can go off and find too top heavy and unbalanced, it happened to me, so then if you do decide to sell you won't lose much if anything. Same with the Hulk as well.

fwiw,

dssd, exp, exp2, millies, 2T are always best as used buys.

if money is no object, always buy new.

I bought my DSSD from the sales thread here.... Saved a few beer tokens in doing so as well getting the dial that I wanted.. as there have been slight changes to dial prior to the D-Blue coming on to the scene.

If you're prone to flipping, I'd go used, especially since the size of the SDDS is something that doesn't click with everyone. If you're sure it's the watch for you and you keep your watches, I'd buy new.

I just picked up a new sub. Got them down to what I saw on the gray market sites. For a couple extra bucks, go new.
