Daytona Function

I like the Rolex Daytona specially in WG w/ Meteorite Dial but I'll be really honest, I have no idea how to use the TACHYMETER. I know it measures time but am really confused, can anyone explain?

I used to have it on my breitling- it is for measuring the speed of an event over time- never used the function though

It's basically a function for measuring all sorts of units against a time scale. There's some info here:

The simplest way I understand it is :

1. You have to have two markers. One beginning, one ending. (Exactly one mile apart.)
2. You start at the beginning marker.
3. You stop at the end marker.

Now look at the dial, and the speed is where the second hand was stopped. It is really useless in my book, since you rarely can find two marker points that is a mile exactly in distance, unless you are at a racetrack or you are traveling on a hwy that has these "mile 1", "mile 2", "mile 3" markers.... etc.

I always liked the look of the daytona, but realistically, I would never use the chronograph function. Also, having this function is prone to more maintenance, since more moving parts. Lastly, I like my watches to have the second hand moving, rather than a small subdial second hand which is practically useless.

Basically the Daytona is a watch that just looks Really, Really, Really cool.

I would be shocked if there is one person in the Forum who actually uses the Tachymeter!

I'd be even more shocked if Daytonas' were actually popular. JOKING.
I had an old Seiko tachymeter, and I used it to time all sorts of things. ANAL but fun.
