Daytona Questions.

Apologies - I'm sure these have been asked before.

1) How do you know when the screw crowns/pushbuttons (all of them) are tightened enough..... Is it literally a question of tightening them as much as possible OR can they be over tightened?
2) When I tightened the main crown the rolex sign on the crown doesn't line up (I have OCD - sorry). I can slackened it off a tiny bit (so it is level) and it still feels pretty tight. Would this suffice if I swim with the Daytona on my wrist?
3) I like the sweeping hand to move but I don't want to overuse the the cosomograph facility - is there a risk of using it too much? Does anyone just leave the stop watch running 24/7?
4) Again, I like looking at my watch when all of the hands are in different positions, rather than being in the reset mode. Does anyone leave there hands in the 'stop' position while the stop watch has been running for a while - very much like you see the Daytona advertised?

2.The crown won't line up...tough. It should be fully screwed down when swimming.

3.Leave the second hand running all the time if you want, but there will be premature wear on the movement, might need servicing sooner.

1. The screw nuts on the pushers do not do anything except keep you from pressing them. Do not tighten them at all, just run them down or up, depending on if you are using the pushers or not. They have zero waterproofing or sealing function.

2. True, crowns do not line up with anything, nor are they supposed to. It's only in photographs that you see the crown positioned that way for aesthetics.

3. No, I don't leave the stop watch running all the time - I don't see the point of that.

4. It's your watch.

I'm really surprised that the crowns do not line up. Surely that would be pretty simple to do.... Good to know though as I'll make sure mine is tight before swimming.
I also thought that the pushers did not need to be tightened for water proof-ness as there is no seal unlike with the crown. Thanks for the clarification.

The crown being upright on the winding crown is hit or miss. My 116610 has the middle point of the crown at 10 o'clock when fully tightened, my 116520 is fully tight at 3 o'clock, and my 116509 is just slightly off perfectly upright when tightened.

The position of the crown on the crown is only cosmetic and has nothing to do with function. Where the logo is when fully tightened all depends on the orientation of the crown when the threads were cut. I wouldn't leave my crown even slightly loose to make things line up. If it really bothers you, the only real option you have is to sell it and source out a watch that lines up the way you want it from the start.

The pushers are screwed down simply to prevent them being pushed when under water. If the pushers were unscrewed under water, there would not be a problem, but if you pushed them when under water, the watch could let water in.

I was wondering about that. The O-ring is clearly visible as a part of the crown sealing system when it is extended to set/wind. Is there a reference that describes how the pushers are sealed against pressure?

The Reference Library has a schematic breakdown of the Daytona. It shows the o-ring seals inside, around the pusher rod, just like the seals inside the crown around the stem.

The visible o-ring you see on a Triplock crown is redundant and is likely there so that you can see it.. (marketing technique)

I don't have to but I swim quite a lot and my watch will be a lot safer on my wrist then left in the locker.

I wear a chronograph and use it in my work daily.
Of all the chronos I own, the Daytona is the only one I would wear swimming.

There is nothing in a steam room or sauna that can harm a Rolex Daytona.

Don't know what "screws" you are talking about here - if you mean the pusher screws, then never need to be "tight" or even screwed up or down - they are just decoration; the crown only needs to be finger snug, but in this case an unscrewed crown probably wouldn't be in issue.
