AD says I must go through them to have warranty work done
The AD offers an extra 3 year warranty for a total of 5 years.
I asked if I need repairs in four years (after the Rolex warranty has expired and under their warranty) do I send them the bill afterward? No, I must send them the watch and they will send it to Dallas and return it to me when finished. Is this normal? |

Yes. I guess they are paying for the service (or sending them to a watchmaker they are familiar with).

Ask them if they will provide you with an itemised service receipt from the RSC after the work is done.

An AD I know of here in California just sends the watches to a watch repair shop in the same mall.

I'd rather do it myself.

You also must understand "warranty". It means a manufacturing defect will be repaired - as per the original warranty, not a normal service, not breakage, and not reconditioning.. Yes, it is very common for Dealers to add their own warranty extension onto the original Rolex 2 year warranty. It is never an additional "Rolex Warranty".

As Larry stated, you are getting a "store" warranty for the three years following the Rolex USDA warranty.
Warranties, regulated, in large part by the Magnusen-Moss Act pertain to manufacturer's defects, not ordinary wear, tear and damage. This is not unlike the warranty one gets from who sells gray market/parallel import (not through Rolex USA) Rolex watches that are not warranted by Rolex USA; you get a warranty from Fill In The Blank watch dealer - for whatever that's worth.

If they are not charging you anything extra for this "extended warranty", you don't have to worry about it unless you have an issue during the 3rd, 4th, or 5th year, then you can decide if you give it to the AD to have it fixed (no charge), or deal with it on your own.
As someone said above, it would only cover manufacturing defects, which is unlikely during that time period, I would expect that if there were defects, they would show in the first 2 years. |
