While we're at it, here's the solid 18K version of the 6542--with even rarer brown Bakelite bezel... sold at auction $125K.

the picture you shared is related to the very first bakelite inserts ( with earliest case numbers from 1955 and special dials ) :

So how are 6542's with aftermarket bakelite inserts looked upon?

Some other photos....

I looked for the perfect 6542 for like two years (probably saw 10+ in the flesh and other 10+ by photos), until I found the one (bought from a very well known European dealer/shop) that was perfect (at least to my own taste). Here is my insert, when placed under UV light it glows briefly, maybe 5 min tops. The glow is bright but nothing compared to the glow of a modern watch (on a scale from 0-10) I would say luminova is a 10 and this glow is a 3 max. I am new to this site, so I thought I would venture with some pics!!

I dont pretend to be an expert, just sharing my own personal experience and 2 cents on this insert.
