Err buddies...Orchi hopes there would be a Muslim member in this forum...who may be able to translate the meaning of the Arabic/Islamic Script that is printed on the RARE Dial of this "SEA DWELLER" watch...

Err buddy Orchi that is quite a rare dial! I have never seen it before in my life!!
I am not Muslim nor do I understand or speak Arabic but my best guess would be that it translates to the word "Submariner." You know because there were Submariners with the red colored font before. I have a feeling that I am incorrect in every aspect of the translation so if somebody can correct me, please do so.

Orchi was told that...the Islamic/Arabic Scripts printed on that SD Dial...indicates in translation that the watch was issued to..."Syrian Commander Hafez al-Assad...by the Syrian ministry of the war"...or something like that. So Orchi hopes...that translated meaning...can be confirmed by another reliable source...from perhaps a Muslim member of this community. n possibly the rarity of the Dial...could be further determined by the fact that the SD Dial...has NO HYPHEN ( - ) between the prints..."SEA DWELLER". |

When I was in M'sia, the south state of Johor had road signs in arabic and malay, so im not sure how many people in M'sia are arabic literate

Guess the Arabic Scripts could be distinctive to Syrians or folks from the Middle East...which may not be as recognizable by the Malaysian Muslim mates here. Hopes also a fellow member from the Middle East may be able to shed some light on the meaning of those Arabic Scripts printed in RED on that SD Dial... |

After trying to determine its authenticity...Orchi is now trying to discover perhaps that particular Dial...may be very very rare with No Hyphen ( - ) between the prints "SEA DWELLER"... It would seem that so far only a handful of folks have seen such an SD Dial before... |

"This is a fake dial". Seriously now, being from the UAE, maybe Thani knows??

I'm wondering if this is the cracked SD dial you displayed the other day (no hyphen), on that occasion there was no red text present. ?????

In the attempts to find evidence to support the genuine existence of the Rolex Dial that has NO Hyphen ( - ) between "SEA DWELLER" prints on early 16660 SDs...a buddy in VRF pointed a link to that picture of a Rolex SEA DWELLER 16660 which also has the missing Hyphen ( - ) print between "SEA DWELER" prints of that 16660 watch...which apparently has the additional RED prints in Arabic/Islamic Scripts on the Dial that has also developed the so called "Spiderweb" effect... That 16660 SD was said to belong to...the "Syrian Commander Hafez al-Assad...or the Syrian ministry of the war"...or something like that... Now...should Orchi be able to find out that the Arabic/Islamic RED prints actually translate to...the "Syrian Commander Hafez al-Assad...or the Syrian ministry of the war"...which is also said to be represented by the Arabic/Islamic RED prints on its Dial....it would mean that 16660 would be authentic. So...if those in the know of the Arabic/Islamic n specifically of the Syrian Arabic language...could translate the RED Scripts to match the ownership of that SD...then it would be 99% evident that the watch would be authentic Rolex made for the Syrian Arm Forces. n should that be the case...then it would be 99% evident also that Rolex did in fact produced the early 16660 SD with NO Hyphen ( - ) between the "SEA DWELLER" prints... Only then...it would be safe for Orchi to believe that the "Spiderweb" SD Dial which Orchi found recently...would be very very RARE...indeed. |

Err buddies...wow this could be interesting...if that 16660 was indeed issued by Rolex to Syrian ministry of war...
Orchi just read...n learnt that the late General Hafez Al-Assad was the President of Syria...from 1971 until his demise in year 2000. The current President of Syria...Dr. Bashar Al-Assad is his son...n successor. So IF indeed that 16660 SD was issued to him...by Rolex...then the 16660 Sea Dweller without Hyphen ( - ) print on its Dial...could definitely be real... |

My comment above was meant as a joke and certainly was not meant to cause anyone any distress, if however, that was the case, I apologise unreservedly for any hurt I may have caused.
I should have put some smilies or the like in with the comment to indicate that it was a joke.

It says: Rais Hafez Al-Assad. In Arabic, Rais or Raees would loosely be translated as "leader" or in this specific case "President". So the translation would be: "President Hafez Al-Assad".
The interesting bit for me is that even though it is in Arabic, it is more in the Persian (Farsi) style of script. I have seen some of the other custom Rollies on this Forum made for people in the Dubai Royal Family, that were in the Arabic style of writing. Just my observation. Another important point to note is that it is written in Arabic, not Islamic. There is no such language as Islamic. There is a common misconception that all Arabs are Muslims and all Muslims are Arabs. In fact a majority of all muslims are not Arabs (Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran, Bangaldesh, India, etc...). It would be like saying if you can speak/read/write English or French or German, you must be Christian. |

Hi. I am still confused regarding the non hyphen Sea Dweller dial. Did rolex make one for the 16660. I am not asking about the arabic writing. Just the dial. Thanks

Err..buddy Orchi... After many days and nights of research...I believe I have the actual meaning of the red writing on the dial...
I may be a little off, but it translates to: "Send just to it JJ" or, JUST SEND IT TO JJ........... now the countdown to a JJ post "How did I get dragged into this one..."

Orchi,
What you have inscripted on that watch as stated, Says: "Raiis Hafez Al Assad" best i can see....which translates " President Hafez Al Assda" who was an Army officer who came to rule Syria after a bloody revolt, for decades and as stated, died few years back and was the Father of the current president Basher Al Assad. The scripture is "NOT in Farsi" as erroneously stated earlier. Though Arabic and Farsi (Persian) use same alphabets, "STYLE" each language scribes letters are totaly different and what you have on your hand is written in ARABIC not Farsi. If Authanticated, you are holding awatch belonging to a significant part of SYRIAN history on your hands. If that watch once belonged to the Deceased Syrian Head of state, it will hold a great value for someone out there.... Hope that helps. |

It would be safe to conclude that(minus the Arabic scripts which would have been specifically made on that watch by Rolex)...such Hyphen-less Dials on the transitional 16660 Sea Dweller watch...do exist. |
