What does adding diamonds to Day Date does to Resale Value?

So decided to buy a base 18238 or 11238, and would like add my watch a diamond bezel and diamond roman numerals to the dial. However, I'm somewhat concern that sometime in the future I might want to sell and get another piece.
So adding aftermarket pieces to the watch helps or diminishes the value of it?

Also if you were to chose a 18238 (11-12K) 118238 (16-18K) both used? Which one will you chose?

Thanks in advance

Edison

My guess is that the market for a DD with aftermarket bling would be minisculely small, but as long as you kept the original parts you could swap it back to original for sale.

By adding an aftermarket dial and bezel, you will be limiting your resale options. If thats what you want for your watch, go for it and keep the originals. If resale is your primary concern, leave it original. You will also limit your service options as RSC's aren't too keen on working on modified watches, so you should make friends with a local jeweler who knows what they are doing. As far as choosing, I would go 118238.

I'm not a fan of after market modifications. As andrew and NYPD said, you are limiting your resale options to a very, very small number of potential buyers. Do not do this with the intent to sell, but only for you long term enjoyment.

Just do what you want as its yours and why worry about resale before you even own it?

Aren't you buying it to wear?

Rollies with diamonds are IMHO more a niche product. So it will likely impact resale. Suggest you get one pre-loved.

1- do not do it if you’re considering resale value. you won’t have a line of wanted buyers easily
2- should you do so, keep original parts to replace with before you sell
3- I would recommend you save up and get it from rolex as bezel and dial diamond

Buy original. Otherwise keep the original parts and remove them before sale.

IMO, original diamond dial/bezel or bust. You will lose big time if you put on an aftermarket diamond dial/bezel.

I would not do it. But if you decide to modify, keep all the OEM parts so you could return the watch to its original condition.

Original sugar but I would never buy aftermarket bezels or upgraded dials

Factory diamonds

aftermarket

And any jeweler that tells u there's no difference and they're the same diamonds is hell of a dishonest one, go else where and get it done..

You can definitely get the same quality diamonds in an aftermarket bezel. The quality and style of the setting job is what makes a difference. Rolex doesn't use diamonds that are unique to them. The notion that a watch is worth less with an aftermarket diamond bezel or dial is not really accurate IMO. It will bring more than a plain factory, but you will never get back what you paid above the stock watch plus the cost of the diamond add-ons. While diamonds are not for everyone, the notion that it's "sacrilegious" is silly. Everyone has different tastes, hence the many niches of Rolex owners. The vintage crowd is never going to want anything non original to the watch. On the other hand ,some find faded bezels and beat up cases to be a turn off. If you plan to "own" the watch, do what you like to it, if re-sale is your end game, leave it alone.

If you really want the big channel set bezel, keep this in mind. I have installed a few of those on both men's and ladies Rolex'. Because they are so much wider than the case, they hang over the edge quite a bit. This makes them highly susceptible to being hit and bent down causing stones to fall out. In addition, I have found the larger the bezel, the worse the fit. No respectable watchmaker is going to warranty water resistance with an aftermarket bezel.

It is not my taste, and I was going to say it was not too bad looking, until I noticed the diamond Roman numerals.
