Freezing Cold

It was in the high 20's in Scottsdale the past 2 mornings and even saw some snow on the McDowell Mountains...

Highs in Albuquerque have been hovering around 32° for some time now.

High today is supposed to be 35° with snow in the forecast.

I see in the extended forecast that we can expect highs in the forties starting tomorrow with lows in the mid-20s.

That'll be something of a break, if the winds stay calm.

Go figure, only going to see mid 50's as the highs for the next few days... Early next week back to the low 70's...

It's a big month out here, Barrett-Jackson, Russo and Steele, RM Auction, Gooding and Company Silver Auction, Bonhams Classic Car Auction all mid month and then the Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, Phoenix Open to close out the month and then Spring Training

Holy cow! While I was typing the post above, it started snowing and temps are still below freezing, so I better get out and do some stuff before the streets ice over.

At least you have those new Pirelli's, should be good in the snow. Just ease up a bit on the corners, lead foot...

Yeah, so far the Pirelli's have performed well in slick conditions. :D

My folks live south of Tucson and go to the Grand Canyon every year for Christmas. My sister took this pic on Christmas Day.

After it started snowing earlier, the skies cleared up and the temperature went up to near 40°.

Now, it's snowing again and while the temperature is still near 40°, according to my thermometer, the projected low tonight is 14° and the high is projected to stay below freezing.

I don't think I'll be driving through the pass this weekend either.

Seems that you have had more snow in AZ than we have had in central Illinois so far this year. When our weather guy went over the December totals on New Year's Day for snow it was "trace". Meaning no measurable snow. No snowmen.

BTW, what is that on your snowman? Dog think it was a hydrant?

I've seen plenty of yellow snow in my life, but green? WTH?

We've been down in the Florida panhandle and it's been bouncing around the mid 50's, 60's and 70's the last couple of weeks.
Heading back to KC and not looking forward to the weather.
I think it's about time for a move south.

By the time I got up this morning, I-40 through the Tijeras canyon was mostly clear, so I decided to make my weekly trek out to Moriarty.

The streets and roads in Moriarty, at least the route to the airport, hadn't been plowed or anything, so it was kind of fun.

Here's what it looked like out at the hangar.

The Pirelli's did great.

I wonder if this cold/snow up in the mountains will help the drought that was so bad out west this summer. On another forum that I am on (swimming pools) most out west had watering bans and couldn't drain/refill pools etc. Hope this eases some of that.

When it comes to the drought, I think it's a month to month thing.

After some pretty wet weeks in the late Summer and Fall, I read that the drought in NM was slacking up.

Then a few weeks ago, I heard that small amounts of snow fall was contributing to the drought conditions.

It's like a yo-yo. Get some rain for a few weeks during monsoon and every thing is hunky dory.

Have a few dry weeks during the Winter and everyone is forecasting doom.

It's feast or famine.

As Craig has said we have a 150km fire front bushfire about 50km NE of us in South Oz.

Temperature yesterday touched 45.6C in the shade and airconditioners were struggling.

Today is 26C.

Fires still burning and many homes lost - could be as many as 25 once access is available to those who had to evacuate.

How cold?

Here on Tinian it's a frigid 27C today. Thankfully my Submariner seems to still work OK in the cold.

Here comes the Polar Vortex for it's first visit to the Upper Midwest this winter. Nothing like last year, but will be a long, cold week. Better than last year!
