Hello:

Over the last year or so, I have purchased a number of watches, traded, sold, consolidated, etc. I currently own two watches: a Patek 5167 SS (pictured below) and a Rolex Milgauss GV. I absolutely love the Patek and I like the Milgauss, but I want something with at least a date function.

I will be trading in the Milgauss and my intent is to add cash and acquire another Rolex to stay with the 1 Patek and 1 Rolex combo. I am in my late 20s and I intend to keep both this new watch and the Patek for the foreseeable future in hopes that my watch addiction is cured! My criteria for this watch is the following:

--will retain it's value well
--has some sort of "cool factor"
--will compliment my Patek well
--has at least a date function
--can have the versatility to be a dress up/down watch

My budget is about $8-12k and I have narrowed down my search to the following, in no particular order: 1) Red Sub 1680 2) BLNR 3) GMT 1675

Please let me know which you think would be the best fit given my age, criteria listed above, and please share any experiences with any of those 4 watches! If there is something else you would recommend that fits the criteria, please let me know as I am trying to keep an open mind. Thanks in advance!

Hi Zack! You can't go wrong with any of these. But I would go for the Red Sub. I recently got one and absolutely love it. Good luck whichever you decide!!

The red sub or vintage GMT will retain value better than the BLNR GMT.
As for the other check boxes, they are largely personal preference. Of the three, I heavily favor the BLNR, but feel the other two watches check off more boxes on your list.

BLNR, even more so given your age. All 3 will retain their value, but on the subject of versatility unlike the BLNR or 1675 on the Jubilee there's just no way to dress that sub up.

Any Rolex will retain its value, vintage ones may even appreciate in the mid term.
Will this watch be a daily wearer or an occasional weekender??
For the former I would pick the BLNR, which is also a bit more dressy than your PP, for the latter, you can't go wrong with the "vintage" pieces.

You can come up with all the criteria necessary to fit your needs, but I'd go with the BLNR simply because I like it best.

BLNR for me but I am not a Vintage guy. If the red sub was mint that would be my choice all day. That of course in mint condition would cost a fortune.

If you are staying with two pieces go for the BLNR, if you build your collection in the future maybe add a vintage then.

BLNR is great. Maybe consider a Hulk (green date sub). You might also want to look at a TT Daytona. The vintage beaters are cool, but don't really belong in the collection with your Patek, IMO. PS - that Patek is gorgeous!

BLNR for me although a Red Sub would be fantastic too.
I am wearing my BLNR today after 2 weeks away from it over Christmas and I am loving it. It's a great piece and fits very nicely into my 3 watch rotation.

Have you considered the Explorer 2, 42mm, 216570? White or black dial can easily make a "one Rolex does it all" watch choice. I have a Polar and never expected to love it much as I do.With your given alternatives though, I'd vote BLNR too.
