thoughts on this 1680 red Sub please?

Looks like an absolutely beautiful example. A question for more discerning 1680 collectors here:

I've recently seen poor quality no box/papers Mark IV Red 1680s in the $8-10K range. With great to excellent quality Reds WITHOUT box/papers in the $11-13K range. Do great to excellent quality Reds WITH original box/papers carry a $2-4K premium such as the example in the first post? Is it just one of those 'in the eyes of the beholder' type of things or do collectors ascribe $2-4K value to original box/papers for Red 1680s?

only you can decide that...for me the watch is priced at the very top and not worth so much. But, similar examples don't show up everyday, so its a personal decision if your willing to pay a premium. You can't wear a box.

I have seen several box/papers Reds in that range and was just wondering whether it was the norm.

Personally, I if I was 'collecting' a piece it would be important for me to have a 'complete' set of original accruements. Whether I would put $4K premium on them or not is another matter :-)

What I've also observed is that pieces from reputable collectors carry a premium such as perhaps in the particular example OP asked about (which would justify the premium, not just the box/papers per se) because by definition they are 'pre qualified'. That is, the reputable collector would not have picked up the piece in the first place if it was not up to their high/expert standards. So in purchasing from a reputable collector, you are also purchasing provenance (point 3 here).
