I think I must be the only person on here who actually dislikes the Deep Sea. It's arguably the most "tool" based of all of the range now but I'd rather buy two subs to be honest. Maybe it's just me, but the DD II is by far the best new thing to come out of Basel.

I'm in the opposite camp.

I know it's a matter of personal taste and preference, but I for my part am not too fond of the DD II. Although I do like the increased case diametre (41 mm), the bezels are far too broad for my liking.

Otto called them "cartoon-ish". A very apt description, imho:

This is absolutely down to taste. I'm a sports watch / tool watch bloke so the DD does nothing for me. The new DSSD on the other hand...........yes please.

I'm a tool watch person too but I love this one! The others look, for want of a better word, ridiculous. But this one really stands out. I also have no idea on the MSRP but guessing will be high as they're only available in WG, YG or Platty I think.

I like the way that my DD looks now,not sure about the larger size until I see one for real.
Plus the cost of a new DD II will put it out of my range.
But the DSSD was a very different story, as soon as I saw it on the Rolex web site, I liked it instantly

I am on the fence when it comes to the DDII. I have always been a fan of the DD and love mine, still from some images I have seen including the Rolex web site, something does not look right to me. I will get a better opinion if I get a chance to see one in person.

Still I love the older model and do not feel I have less than, just because they changed the size and design a little.

I think Rolex made an attempt to please the "Bigger is Better" tool watch crowd, but failed IMO. Just adding a big case isn't the answer. They should have scaled the bezel and dial to match. The scale and proportion look out of sorts to me.

Does anyone know if the bracelet is any wider/bulkier then the standard DD bracelet

You're not the only person...I think it's absolutely aweful. And the depth rating is just plain silly.

I think the goal of Rolex here is to cater to a younger audience with the DD. I'm only 22 and whilst I wouldn't consider the current DD as it's very dressy and "presidential", this new one I kinda like. I don't think many DD owners are under 30 or so and I wouldn't be surprised if this was designed to cater to a slightly younger crowd, who would usually be more likely to buy the sports models. Just my thoughts.

I like the DDII, but must see one in person to really decide. If it looks as good as in the pics, it will be my grail watch.

The DSSD, on the other hand, is just plain too much for me.

Depends on the dial. Some look stunning, some look hideous. I will admit the larger size does add to the overall appeal. Like JJ, it's way out of my reach. But then again, so is the 36mm DD.

In my opinion, the DD is meant to be for older established gentlemen. I'm not sure Rolex has any intention to appeal to the 21-30 age group as their potential buyers would be very small. Most well established individuals probably find it hard to drop $20k on a watch. I know at my age(22) it basically took me 4 years to save for my GMT. Just my two cents.

While I agree the proportions didn't remain the same as the size increased, I still like the watch quite a lot! 40/41mm is probably the maximum size for my wrist, but 36mm seems to be missing something since I bought my Sub. That's my perception on the new size issue so far. Having a 40mm watch seems to have changed that a bit. I wanna see one in person!

Its still, ah, very cost prohibitive of course...

P.S.- love the German day text!

i do not like the new Day Dates. The older style is classier, and IMHO, the DD white face with roman numerals is the ultimate watch.
