Ok follow up with my last post. More details on my last "help" post.. your $.02

Ok here we go I posted a while back about my uncles watch that he had passed away. After 20 some year's I have the opportunity to buy it. You can see my last post here http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=388777 . I never had a chance to lay my eyes on it until today. I only went off of my aunts word on what it exactly what it was. She told me it was the blue faced 2 tone sub…116613. Its actually a 16803 model. I have to let her know as of tomorrow if I'm going to get it or not. Everything looks good to me. I've never seen the older paperwork like this nor the older looking box. I did pop the band off and the case did match the Ser.# on the paperwork. The watch was worn 2-3 years before he passed away. It needs a service and a good ole band polish. She told me $4200 for the way it sits. Here are the pictures and a video on it running.

It's beautiful and was family purchased. I would buy it if those more knowledgeable agree the price is fair.

I would buy it... looks legit to me... others will chime in on the price... I’m a little iffy about it considering you have to pay to service it.

I would guess that 4200 would be decent had it been serviced. Go for 3500 as you have to service.
It is family though, usually the hardest people to deal with when it comes to the green!

I would love to have my uncle's watch. Let your aunt know how much servicing can cost, maybe she'll give you a break.

As others have said, family can be hard to deal with... If she's anything like my aunt, you may be $#!t out of luck.

A service will be around $800 for a total of 5K. A smoking deal IMO for a beautiful 2 toned Sub. I would definitely go for it. Especially if you liked your Uncle.

I think we may have the same Aunt!

But yeah guys…..I made her a counter offer at $3.7k. I think its quite fair as many have advised me that since I had to pay for the extra work…. its a good round about price. Actually as you see... they say 3.5 but I want to be fair to her. And if I can give her a couple hundred more then what what a local shop is offering her… I think its more then fair. We will see. If its meant to be..then it will be…if not… then so be it. Its in fate's hands now. I appreciate every last one of ya's $.02. I hope to soon be a part of the family( even tho I bought my wife's rolex so I guess that technically counts me in haha). I will keep you guys posted. Hopefully its good new to report back

Sounds like a fair enough deal. And you get it keep it in the family. I'd buy and send it to Riki for a service and polish.

I don't think you can place a price on it, especially if there's a family, sentimental value.

Woops!! I missed this one first pass through...

OP, in all seriousness, I'm curious if it is sentimental to you? That's worth a lot in anyone's book especially mine. If you liked him and really like the watch, I hope you go ahead even at her asking. In a few years the entire cost won't mean a thing. Not a bad price anyway, particularly given the circumstance.

I would overpay to keep a piece like that in the family. The story is worth the $250. I hope she accepts and I hope you get your Sub. Looking like it is all original I am not sure that the RSC would not be a bad idea. That way you have the magical paper if you ever want to sell it.

send it off to rikki for a service and it will be less than going through the RSC. under $5k for a two-toned sub where you know its history...? how can you beat that?

I don't deal in small bills, $4,000 is a nice price for both and then a nice service and you can wear it for 20 years...

that is a good price, even if it's scuffed up a bit. video looks good - the beat rate appears normal! let us know what you decide!

Well we came to terms today on the watch :). I'm happy to have it. It need's to go to rolex to get a service and it has a small "clink" in it when you move the watch around some. It seems to be running fine tho. Want to hear something funny…. this is my first watch I've ever bought for myself lol. I bought my wife's, but it wasn't for me.

Here are some pictures of my new one and the wife's Rolex.

Here is the "clink" I'm talking about(click on pic for video). Turn the vol up. Also I'm 99.9% sure its not the band. I can hold band tight and I still hear it.
