Question on which 1680 Red to choose

Just as I was getting into vintage 3 years back, family commitments pulled me away and now I'm back and trying to get my grail watch.

I would love to hear feedback from my fellow enthusiasts on which of the following is a better choice given that they are very close in price, age and condition.

Hi. Before you spend a lot of time on the comparison, are you 100% sure that the first one is still available? I only ask because the stock on that website has not been updated for a significant amount of time.

Eric's seems to be in a little nicer shape, although it may just be a situation of a recent polish where Jacek's may not have been touched since he acquired it. I can't believe complete reds are commanding this sort of price now.

Be surprised if no 1 not long gone - as someone says the site doesn't seem t get updated much

For about 4/ 5 years I was saving up for a red 1680. That was what I was getting - no question about

Thankfully I came to my senses - got a mint 1680 from andrew shear for less than 1/2 of what those 2 are going for

Unless your hearts 101% into a red - don't buy (if you'll forgive the pun) into the hype about the red "popping out", something special, etc. A nice\ super fine 1680 takes a lot of beating - all IMHO of course ;.)

I'm glad you came to your senses. Since I started looking a week back, I have been really itching to get one.

And wife is enabling me right now as she knows I wanted one for a long time.

x2. Also, unless you're one of those guys who must have boxes and papers with vintage pieces, you could save yourself even more money _ thousands, really _ by finding the best example without b&ps, whether it's a red or white 1680. Good luck in your search.

I wouldn't touch number 1 because of the case condition. Look at the picture of right lower lug and other photo of the straight end-on view of the lugs. The excessive strap wear on the bottom inside of the lugs would always annoy me (I've purchased watches in the past where I have accepted a compromise on condition in a specific area and the fact is you are never totally happy with the watch).

Good luck with the search, I have both a Red and a White as I'm a big fan of the 1680.

I can see the issue with the wear but can you elaborate on the issue with the right lower lug?

There's nothing in it, really - both excellent examples, both same price. Of those particular two, I'd probably choose Jacek's because I prefer the case, patina/dial, and the insert.

I saw Jacek's Red in person last Thursday. Looks very nice indeed. He had a couple of Reds actually, but I was too busy drooling over all the other watches that he was kind enough to show me. Wow is all that I can say.

Man...it is hard for me to believe that these 1680 reds are going for $18K. Am I wrong in thinking that about 2 years ago something like this would sell for $12.5-13K.

Yea, I keep seeing people in the General forum saying pretty easy to find at 10K. I keep saying where?? Nice examples were there two-three years ago maybe, not now. This watch is really seeing the crazy price now, but just wait a few more years. I don't think there is any end in sight, because more, and more people want this watch every day.

It's not on the dial & most likely tarnishing rather than creeping rust

I had a similar blemish appear on my 1680 twenty-five months after a RSC service, I sent it back , twas fixed within a week with a thousand apologies, a gratis fresh service & new 2 yr warranty ...
