San Antonio for a long weekend.

Going to be in San Antonio next week for work. Wife is flying in Thursday evening and we are spending Friday, Sat and Sunday in SA. Having dinner at Biga on the Banks one night. Any other recommendations on things to do in SA. It's our first time there.

I did both and it was really cool. Learned a lot at the Alamo tour and River walk was fascinating and gorgeous.

River walk is always nice. There is a few places to check out down town. If you're looking for shops and nice stores, then i recommend "The Shops at La Cantera" on Loop 1604 and IH-10W. Just tell(if you are, any cab driver or van driver) that name, "Shops at La Cantera." About 10-15 minutes from downtown on a good day with traffic. They have lots of very nice stores and places to go. Unique and very beautiful. Omega boutique is there, and Torreanau, nice watch stores. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is right there, but i don't know if it's open.

There is also SeaWorld, off of Hwy. 151. May 30 minutes from downtown, but again, i don't know if it's open. Off of Hwy. 281, there is Moretti's, a fine watch dealer of Rolex, Patek Phillipe. There's another Rolex dealer in that area as well, just i don't remember the name.

If you're looking for a nice place to pick up some clothes for the evening, i recommend Penner's, in downtown San Antonio, on E. Commerce, past the Alamo. It's on the right side. They have a good selection of Guayaberas, traditional and very nice shirts. All other clothes there can be bought and tailored for free. The staff there has always been very welcoming and cool with me. Going that same way, down on E. Commerce, in San Antonio, there is San Fernando Cathedral, the church where Jim Bowie, Davie Crockett and that other dude are buried. Also down town, there is a little village called "La Villita" which is part of original San Antonio, back in the 1850's. The city sprawled up around it and the buildings there are still original. It's S. Alamo St. and on the right.

I guess I had a different kind of experience in San Antonio. Was there for a trade show in October quite a few years back.

Humidity was horrible, saw dead fish and dead rats floating in the riverwalk river.

Did have a fun dinner at Dick's Last Resort.

Don't know why or when that happened, but i was there just on Friday and Saturday. Nothing unpleasant about it. Of course, i didn't live here a few years ago. Humidity in February and March isn't terrible. It's quite pleasant.

I know SA well...I would not hang out at Riverwalk area. Get out to the Hill Country areas (JW Marriott or Westin Resort).

Another vote for JW. Gruene is fun also. Weather should be nice. Another cold front coming in this weekend, don't know how long it's expected to last though (granted, our definition of cold is not the same as you Yankees').

River walk is great. Then head to the Hill Country. Second only to Napa for wine tours.
Be sure to take in pedernals brewing co on the way in and garrisons whiskey on the way out. There are about 25 wineries in the fredericksburg area alone.

Had a convention in San Antonio last September - enjoyed everything except the heat/humidity. Grab a beer at Durty Nellie's on the Riverwalk. Took a client to dinner at Bohanan's Prime Steakhouse and it was excellent!

Was there years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed the river walk. A group of us took a limo out to Banderra and went to Arky Blues to catch some live entertainment. Enjoyed that trip

Bandera is where all the sex offenders hang out. Big underground network. Made national news about two years back.

Wow
As a tourist to your fine state, had no idea. We had dinner at a really cool bbq, rib restaurant and enjoyed local music at Arky Blues.

La Tuna for beer, La Cantera for the shopping, The Cove for a burger and live music, and do avoid the tourist trap that is the River Walk. Taco Taco for the best breakfast tacos in the state.

(lived there a few years ago, honestly it's nice enough but totally overrated, in my opinion)

Inner space caverns are pretty sweet. Also i would eat at county line BBQ. Also if this is your first time to texas i would eat at pappasitos. There beef fajitas are the best ever. There Ritas are top notch too.

Thanks to everyone who had such great suggestions for San Antonio. My wife and I had a great time in spite of the crappy weather. We stayed at the historic Menger Hotel. Had dinner at Bohanon's, Biga on the Banks, Little Rhien, and Paloma Blanca. All were very good. Had Sunday brunch at a great place called Feast. I would recommend that as well. Spent a good bit of time at the Riverwalk. Also walked through the La Villita historic village, the park at the tower of the America's, and spent half a day at the Alamo.

We had really nice time. Looks like they are really making an effort to revitalize parts of the city.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. They were great.
