What is sun burst blue in TT sub.
I own a TT sub with a blue dial from the mid 90's. It is this deep Royal blue. But I been reading here in the forum that people describe their TT sub as "sun burst blue" Deep blue and so on.
Did Rolex make a different blue through out the years since the 90"s? I am not talking talking about the smurf, blue. So my questions is how many blues did they have since the 90"s. In any given year did they have more than one blue? Or did rolex only had one blue TT but they made different shade for certain years? And is the blue for the solid gold they same as the TT. |

I am no expert by any means, just going off on memory here. From what I recall, the model you have from the mid 90's is the same one that was introduced back in 1988 to 2009, the 16613 LB. This model had the dark royal sunburst blue that you are referring to.
When the 116613 LB replaced the 16613 LB in 2009, Rolex changed the dial colour to the flat blue dial. It was not until mid to late 2013 when the 116613 LB would once again be equipped with a blue sunburst dial, which replaced the flat blue one. I do not have a 16613 LB to compare to my 116613 LB (sunburst), but from what I can tell by looking at pictures, the dial on the 16613 LB is a bit darker than the 116613 LB. Hope his helps.

O.k.
I found these pic on the web. The one on the right is the sun burst? The one on the left is the newer 116613 with the "newer" blue? But as someone here said the even newer 116613 will be coming out with the sun burst. Is there an official name for the "newer" blue. Did someone called it a flat blue. |

A good comparison pix.
The latest 116613LB has the 'sun burst' dial as per Larry's pix.

The 16613 LB was only available with a sunburst dial. When the 116613 LB was first released the dial was a flat blue with no sunburst effect. After a few years the dial was changed to sunburst. Here's a photo from the web comparing the 116613 LB. The current production sunburst dial is on the left and the discontinued flat blue is on the right.
