Icon19 Retired at 49 ~ Back to Work at 51

I have spent the past 2 years; working around the house on projects, playing golf, being a house Husband, trading stocks, buying watches, hanging out on TRF and relaxing. However, I have missed having a place to go, daily interaction with others, shared business goals and developing new relationships. So, I am officially coming out of retirement to go back into the business world.

Tomorrow morning I am starting a new Director of Business Development position. I am very excited to get back into the mix and look forward to prospecting/presentations/client luncheons/dinners/drinks/golfing and making things happen!

My activity on TRF may slow down a little as I get up to speed in my position but I'll be around...

Thanks TRF for all the Good Times!!!

Congrats on the new position and good luck. I am sure that you will do great. You lasted 1 year and 11 months more than I would as a house husband.

Yep! I hear you... Fortunately we have a maid, gardeners and I enjoy cooking so it worked for a little while.

Welcome back, to work that is. If you find something you love to do then it's not really like " work" at all

I know the feeling but I am not ready to go back yet. Enjoy your new job. A lot of people have to work but you choose too. Should make a difference.

Would love to have the choice, but hey, you can always log on at work and not work like most all of us... I have the George Costanza under the desk shelving I use

Interesting. I have been debating early retirement myself but had the same concerns re: daily interaction, business goals, etc. I'm only 44, so figured I'll stick it out a few more years and re-assess.

Congrats on the new position........

Yes they say that if you've been in quite a busy, high pressure work environment, you should never go completely cold turkey and retire since there is never enough hobbies, trips or jobs around the house that can take up the time and energy previously involved in your business/profession/job........

Therefore, always best to stagger and phase yourself into retirement if you can.......or you'll end up going back to work before too long......

The only reason I didn't retire early, I was worried about the game passing me by and not being able to get back in.
Now at 61 I'm ready and the timing is wrong to sell out.
Hello 70.

I'll retire in 16 months. Already met with Edward Jones and have called my pension agency. Need a part time job to help with health care. Other than that one issue, I'm in good shape.

Congratulations on doing what makes you happy. I retired three years ago at age 56, and I would have to be sedated and handcuffed before anyone could drag me back to the Emergency Department.

I'm 46 and can't wait. I assure you, I will not be back. I like golf and sailing too much.

I am going to trade my iphone in for a flip phone and leave it in my car. If you need me, call the clubhouse.
