All depends on what you want.
It looks like a MK3. Service crystal, hands, insert, crown, etc. Case looks thick, but likely recut. Dial has several chips. All that said, you can still absolutely love the watch as is, but know what you are getting into before you buy. Unless it's a steal, I'd pass. |

Unreal. So I saw that posted and shared with friends yesterday. 6.1 mil mk3 drsd. Not good. Even at $17k knowing the SN, this is an absolute pass.

So do some research on doublereds. 6.1 mil is way way off. The last of the mk4 DRSD should be around 5.2, so a 6.1 is well past what you should find for a red and into the white (at 6.1 it could be a mk1 or a mk3 white).

This dial was almost certainly replaced. I have a 5.3 mil GW 1665 with a MK1 dial. Now, even if something weird was happening at the Rolex factory at that time and they happened to use a DRSD dial in a 6.1 mil serial case, the watch would be very difficult to resell because of this question. I'd pass for sure.

It seems no one knows for sure.. Everything seems to be alleged so not 100%..
Spoke with a reputable dealer that has seen "full kit" 6 mill with red dials, super rare but does exist... This is so uncertain I'll be passing this one up. |

Spoke with an American dealer here in the states.. The fellow who owns the watch, he knows the original owner personally and says the dial and case is 100% .. This dealer is highly respected in the trade and is a current member of the "IWJG"... His colleague is a watch dealer in Europe and also knows the original owner personally.. They both concur that the DRSD is and does in fact fall in line with case and dial matching up...

For the sake of argument, I am graciously passing on this and will continue to track one down..
I do hate to pass it up though :( Until the next one passes through my hands the one on my wrist will do... It is a cream puff !! |

Mr. Nuncio,
As a watch collector, I'd be surprised if you actually considered buying this watch. Mk 3 dials ended at 4mil, this watch is about 2.1 mil off. ref: http://www.doubleredseadweller.com/w...ers-guide.html Do you happen to know Rick or Romana? Do they wholesale for Jonathans? Best of luck in your search for a proper DRSD. Cheers, Steve |

Stmoore - yes, I did actually consider buying this piece but decided against it after some research..
Rick and Romana I do know them, yes. Do Rick and Romana wholesale for Jonathan's, I don't think they need to wholesale my goods, why? Steve - is it safe to say your line of questioning has zero relevance to this thread.. Although I do appreciate your link above.. A little luck is all I need in my search :) |

I think my comment has a lot of relevance.
As a __dealer__ I find it interesting that you'd: * post the watch and state "thinking hard" about it (don't you own store in Houston that sells watches?) * define it as a "cream puff (why then think hard?) * defend the 6.1 mil (why think hard if your known contacts know of 6.1 full sets?) * why then "pass on a few gems"? * why then "graciously pass"? Phishing? Quote:

Steve - I do own a store in Houston, YES... I do sell watches. I have never owned and or sold a DRSD ever, though I would love a "DRSD" that can be verified as original or possibly a "Great White", box and papers would be great...
All my comments were genuine in nature and i don't see your point, are you attempting to discredit the valididty in my concern with the above mentioned "DRSD".. sounds like you need a Hug or something.. by the way what is "Phishing" did you mean "fishing" , like fishing for answers?? anyway, I don't know you but would like to think your just trying to be helpful and not an a**-H**e |
