Most popular Rolex for men?

Hello all,

This is my first post and - as you might of guessed - I'm a big Rolex fan (not owner though... yet!). For such purchases I like to take things slow, let the idea grow inside me and then buy the watch. I think the preparation process is (almost) as exciting as the moment you get your hands on your own Rolex!

Anyway, I'm not asking for help on which model to come down to (not in this thread anyway) but a more general question: which Rolex model (for men) do you think is the most popular one? Or which models? I'm not asking which one you prefer but which you consider most people do.

From my experience/discussions with Rolex fans I'd say it's between the Submariner (probably with Date function) and the Daytona.

What do you think?

Edit: of course if you want to post your personal preference feel free to :-)

First, welcome to the forum and second, from everything I've read on this forum it has to be the Sub.

I actually see more Submariner Date than No-Date in Canada. Not sure if this holds true for other countries.

Yeah if we're looking at numbers it would have to be either the datejust or sub. I would say most forum members would probably be more partial to the sub.

Certainly not daytona. Not because it's not awesome, but rather the price and lack of date I think.

Gotta be sub.

But get what you want. Not what's most popular.

By all means, I'd never have as criterion what's most popular! This doesn't mean of course that my taste and what's most popular couldn't match but it wouldn't be the reason for buying it.

#1 is the Rolesor Datejust 36mm 116233
#2 is the SS Submariner with date 116610LN

My guess:

Sub > GMT > Daytona

If women's watches were included, the Datejust would probably be #1

The last couple of AD's where have asked which is most popular they have said they sell more Subs than anything else.

Although as a side note, one AD said he sold more ladies Rolex in the last quarter of 2014.

Please keep in mind that what is popular here on a site of AVID Rolex fans may not necessarily be what the general Rolex wearing public thinks. Believe it or not MOST people that own a Rolex have no idea that this site even exists ( I know, I know, CAVEMAN for sure).

With that said I would think the DJ is most popular just based on price point.

Thanks for your input! You're right about what's popular in a Rolex forum might not be the same with what's popular by Rolex owners but in any case I was just asking out of curiosity, so it's not really important if the most famous Rolex is something else than what has been posted here.

I believe in the real world it is the DJ. Think about all of the options available. On this board though we are all enthusiasts, so we migrate to the sports cars of the watch world. There is no doubt we are all big Sub, GMT, and Daytona fans here. I will say Sub is the #2 choice in the real world.

On TRF, the sub. In the real world, probably the DJ.

I see many more DJ's than Subs, and many more Subs than GMT's.

well the sub is certainly more ubiquitous but if a choice between the sub and the Daytona would chose the sub all day long!
