How is it done? Photography

I am relatively new to TRF, and in browsing the posts in an almost OCD manner these days I have been privileged to see so many beautiful shots of watches. There are many different types of shots, some professional, some not so . Some made to be art, and some quick shots from Cell phones at the AD’s.

My question is this. I have seen quite a few photos of the GMT II c, but the cerachrome bezel does not lend itself well to photos, becoming quite reflective, and almost silvery white in appearance. However I have also seen some wonderful shots of this watch, without the ‘whiting out’ of the bezel. Can anyone help advise me how best to get a crisp, shiny shot of my watch?

I have a Digi Cannon camera of some quality with the MACRO function, and I was wondering what lighting conditions and such are best to get the best results.

I read a bit recently about black backgrounds and cloth resting the watch on, and I will experiment with this, but of course I want some wrist shots to share and post whenever.

Can anyone with ideas please post their advice for the best ‘arty’ shots and the all important wrist shot?

You're on the right track....

. Indirect lighting

. No flash

. Macro lens

. Tripod

. Practice..

I don't have a ceramic, but glare is glare, no matter what it reflects off, so pay attention to all reflections.

I'm just a snapshot guy, but there are some really good semi-pro and pro quality images on the forum.

A background can help absorb unwanted lights.

Wonderful shots therei particulally like the blue background you have used, really sets the watch off.

Photography is always interesting and comes up ocassionally.

You're entitled to your own thread

One of the other threads that was dredged up is almost a year old now.. Some of those cameras and techniques are obsolete..

To put your post in perspective, I changed your title a bit..... Let's see what others have to say and better yet, to produce.. Here's one of my favorites:

I have been around this site for a few days now, and i must say i find everone very friendly, helpful and fair. Thanks for your help with the title and advice. This has to be one of the nicest places to spend a saturday afternoon! (without spending to much money at an AD!)
