Thanks guys.

Given that it is an old and discontinued model what would be a fair price? 4k, 4.5? Watch comes with no box and no papers. The bezel has a couple dents also.

Yes, discontinued and superseded by the new ceramic bezel version, but still a very popular watch. I think low $4k range is a fair price and anything less than that is a bargain. Be sure to budget several hundred extra for possible service after purchase as with many undocumented watches.

Is low 4K is a fair price, why almost every watch (this model) available, either here, ebay or other sites like Bob'sW, BeckerT, etc. are well above 5K, some of them even above 6K? Am I missing something?

Best,
D.

looks like a nice watch but at almost 5 more days in the auction it seems likely that the price will get up well over $4K and then it wont be so great a deal.

Looks ok, why not ask for some pix of the movement and a service history?

I'll ask for that. Thanks.
I agree this early in the auction the price is likely to go up and stop being attractive. If that's the case is much rather buy from a different source that would guarantee authenticity, that would also take care of service history.

This model, reference number 16710, was produced for about 20 years. Within that time, there have been many subtle refinements including bracelet, lume, elimination of lug holes, and even the mechanical movement itself. And these refinements can make a significant difference in price, as does the presence of box and/or papers. Also, the retail sites you named are overpriced and not well regarded. Ebay can be expensive too because sellers have to factor in the 10% final value fees that they get charged to sell. Lastly, remember that asking price and selling price are not the same thing. But that's just one person's opinion. You're certainly free to pay more if your research compels you.

I don't mind paying more (not a lot more) if that will give me peace of mind as per the watch authenticity and proper service history.

I walked away from BobsW because I felt the watches were too overpriced but I think I got a decent deal on my 14060 on Beckertime. Like I said, my main concern was authenticity and the appraiser confirmed I had bought a legit watch.

When you say this sites (and others) aren't well regarded can you mention specifics? I'm aware of Beckertime's reputation for aftermarket parts although I feel the community is being a bit harsh on them. Other than that, are this sites dishonest in the way they conduct business? Abusive in their pricing policies, bad after sale service? Anything you can mention that is a concrete example?

I looked at the classifieds section here but I see some disadvantages to buying here:

I'm not all too familiar with the trusted sellers so I'm also at risk of buying a fake watch if I'm not careful.

The prices aren't as attractive as everyone claims they are.

The payment options are not as flexible.

It seems large sellers like DavidSW have mostly new models and not a lot of specific pieces like the one I'm searching for.

Whenever a watch like the one I want show up it gets sold almost immediately, of course this is not a fault of the seller or the forum but rather my own lack of readily available funds to buy almost immediately. Online sellers like BobsW and Becker seem to have a perennial source of old models, so when I'm finally ready to buy they will most likely have a watch available.
