Deceptive buyers on TRF, what would you do?

What would you do if you were in my shoes...

I listed a watch that was in excellent condition with barely any wear on the band. I reduced the price (just to make a deal) and sold it to a buyer. I shipped out and the buyer received it. The buyer sends me a message stating that he would like to return it due to the severe stretch in the band.

I told him to return it for full refund. I emphasized that the band had no stretch whatsoever. I have also taken high def. pictures to prove that there was no stretch. Furthermore, I informed him that I could have sold it for more than what he paid easily. I gave him my phone number and requested that he sends back the watch immediately.

So... he basically sent me the first message about his intent to return but after reading my follow up messages, he doesn't respond to any of my mine. No phone calls either. What do you think was his intent in sending me the message? Does this seems shady?

Sounds like an arse to me. He got the watch, you got the cash. He bought it in a condition you explained. To the buyer, Either return it and cash back or stop moaning.

Cold feet???

Maybe he decided to keep it...Are the funds safe in your account?'

Or...he got busy / has not sent the watch back yet. Did you give him a deadline?

Yes. It is. I just don't understand why he wouldn't respond. If he changed his mind, then a simple message would be appreciated. It just seems shady to me.

It absolutely is shady. But at the end of the day you have the money and he has the watch. I would just let it go unless the guy starts making unreasonable demands. Him not responding means to me that he's given up and is keeping the watch.

Hard to say.

At least he didn't try to get you to send $ / then change his mind. Then I would say he was shady. Maybe he's just moved on.

What seems like a minor condition issue to one person might not be so minor to another. I tried searching your recent classifieds to check out a photo of this allegedly stretched bracelet but all of your photos have already been deleted.

Regardless if the buyer had a legitimate beef or not, it is very strange that they simply disappeared. In another day or two, I would refuse to accept a return no matter what. The discovery period is safely over at that point.

That's the thing. I purposefully disclose every little thing wrong about the watch to ensure there is no surprises. I make it sound like the condition is worse than it actually is. And, the fact that the band had no stretch whatsoever made me scratch my head.

I take down the photos immediately so that con artists wont use them to scam people.

Most likely Buyer not wanting to admit fault. Him/her assumed the bracelet stretch was not acceptable at initial impression but then does some research and found out bracelet is norm. Takes some ego to admit fault. Either that or the Buyer had amnesia and forgot the whole thing, but that wouldn't explain why his messages were read.

I have recently noticed people posting pictures to show the bracelets with the crown pointing down. Maybe it's just me, doesn't having the crown up give you a more accurate depiction of bracelet stretch or does it matter?

Maybe he realized he was wrong about the stretch.

Thank you. Well its not mine anymore but this model was discontinued in 2008. Its getting quite rare to find this model in such unmolested condition.

It doesn't matter. Either way works. I was acutally pushing the band as much as possible to show that there wasn't any stretch.

Jee,

I wouldn't worry about it. Does sound a little shady. There are shady people everywhere. By the way, thanks for the Deep Sea bracelet, I had been searching for one for a while. I can attest to your great service and integrity. Don't let those kind get you down.
