Is TT White Trash?
I own a TT, by the way, but I really want to know what people think... Is it a poor man's attempt at owning a gold watch?

In lots of cases, yes. I bought the latest TT Sub but if I'm honest, I wanted the WG Sub but couldn't justify the cost. Flipped the TT three months later as it wasn't really me.
However, lots of people I know love the look of the TT and some prefer it to the all gold as gold can be too bling for some and too heavy for others. Only you know if you bought it because it's a lot cheaper than the full gold. What I would say, is that no 'poor man' I know owns a Rolex, and certainly not a TT!

The whole thing is somewhat comical. And to boot the guy owns a TT so there obviously is no evil implied by the op. Get over it and wear what pleases you. People are going to form opinions for whatever reasons and I say who gives a rip. Of course this is my opinion.

Also, some people have a cut off for what they are prepared to spend on a watch. My cut-off has historically been £10k, because up to that point I am happy to wear it almost anywhere and do almost anything with it. Once it goes above £10k I think I'd treat it differently. My collection at one point was worth about £30k, which is not a lot for this forum! But it showed I could have had a gold Rolex if I could have got over the psychological threshold I have! And hey, if people can't afford a gold watch but can get themselves a TT Rolex, they shouldn't be worrying too much about things!! Don't be fooled by what others on here have, there are some very wealthy members on here and it can skew your own judgement of yourself sometimes if you're not careful.

They are for supremely wealthy people who 'like to be understated'!!
I'm thoroughly enjoying this thread. It's brilliant. I can't decide which responses are amusing me more - those showing a sense of humour - or those showing utter disdain! P.S. Rolex is obviously just a poor mans Lange, no matter the metal!

Converse to the above, the wealthiest guy I know (and who earned every bit of it) still wears his Dad's stainless Omega from the 1940s. I doubt VERY seriously if he owns another watch. I also doubt he has ever bought a new car (he hates depreciation) and I know he bought his current home (must be worth a cool million or more these days) at a bankruptcy auction 25 years ago...and effectively paid an apple and an egg for it. |

People will always look down on those below. It's human nature, there is no end to it. So why bother? Mind you that gold is a barbaric relic and that Rolexes are pure obsolete indulgence.

This!
The whole "white trash" dialogue is ludicrous. I own a TT Sub and my watch (which is one of several and not close to my most expensive) is hands down and far and away the nicest watch amongst my social circle and really... Who cares anyway. I have an extremely wealthy friend (8 figures) and he is proud to say he has never spent more than $100 on a watch. Measuring a person's social status by the timepiece they wear is a slippery slope at best. Crazy thread |
