1803 Day-Date Pie Pan Dial Made in Early 80s??
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase this 1803 pie pan dial Day-Date, but the serial number is in the 7 millions, which puts the case at 1981-1982. Did they make pie-pan dials up until the early 80s? I'm scared that an older dial was put into a newer case. The bracelet, clasp, and plastic crystal seems to be period correct though. |

The discontinued production of 1803 is in the years of 1977-1978...

I dont think they r interchangeable, without major modification. Check the reference no. At 12 oclock. If its 18038, then thats the wrong dial. That said, the case looks more like 1803 which matches the dial. Do u have the watch? If yes take shots between both lugs.
Hopefully crowncollection will b aling shortly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Tim, I'm not sure about that because I've seen 1803s that had 1981 serial numbers before. But then again, I'm not an expert in this field.
Omitohud, that's what I thought too, that the pie pan woudn't fit into an 18038 case without major work being done. |

It's not possible to have a 1803 with pan pie dial on a 1981. Dials are not interchangeable and 1893 ended production in 1977 July.

Don't do it. Pictures are not right. First pics show champagne day wheel, second show a white day wheel, not the same watch. Also, distance from rail markings and lume dots to corner of case is too big IMHO. Dots on 1803 and 18038 are way closer to case. It might be the right dial and case, but in my modest experience, something looks off.

The more i look at it the more it looks like 1803 case. There r only two gold markings on the lugs as opposed to 3 on 18038. To OP r u sure it 18038 not 1803?

It's true that the dials feet are in different positions, so they are not interchangeable. However, because the dials are of the same diameter, it's not uncommon to see dials of 18038 on the 1803 and vice versa. You just need to have the the feet are cut-off and use double sided tape to hold the dial in place. it's widely known practice among watchmakers.
