So I don't post much, mainly because I have yet to buy a Rolex. I made a post about getting one with my graduation money, it just never panned out. So after countless hours on this amazing website, I have learned, researched and decided, that it is time. I have a great job out of school, I will be honest I make 50 k, but have free rent living in a family owned property, I also have paid off my 02 IS300. I will be paying $2500 cash, financing the rest. So my question is this..I have a Tag Heuer and a Movado, but am bored of them both. I have never even known anyone with a Rolex, but for some reason growing up in the money wasting eighties, it planted a seed. I love the look, had a sailboat growing up, and just feel that it would put such a smile on my face as I check the time. So my mind is made up.

What I am looking for is a little encouragement, advice and criticism....

Let it rip..Price is NEW from an AD for $5750 (firm i believe) I have heard they are going up and this model has the new mainspring, and this color may not come back.

No guarantee it has the new hairspring though you may do the "wiggle test".
Yes the 16710 GMT is discontinued and though they are still available new, they are getting harder to find each day.

The GMT is versatile, robust, and a good looking watch..

After those in the supply pipeline are gone, there won't be any more, so this is the last of an age..

The GMT red/black is my favorite combination........

i'd go for it,it's a very cool watch.just pay it off as quickly as possible,so you don't pay too much interest.

The coke "M" might well become a very rare watch if it has the parachrome hairspring and the 3186 movement. I would get it, you will most likely not have this chance again to get one of these watches new.
However, the watch has to sing to you. Many who have experienced the GMT do prefer the Red/Black bezel. Anyway, you can swap this over at anytime.
Kai (2careless) showed me his new GMT "M" Red/Blue last week and it did have the new movement inside. The watch looked and felt great.
If you really like it then go for it

Pull out the stem to "jump" the Mercedes hand. As you jump the hand back and forth there will not be any noticable movement of the 24 hr hand on the 3186.

I love the look of the GMT ll. I bought a Pepsi soon after buying my Sub-Date because I loved the look so much.

I say go for it if you've tried it on and like the look and feel. Like others have said, it is a very versatile watch. Good luck and congratulations.

Man this is simple, You HAVE to buy it, and buy it NOW!!!

You will love it when you get it, and it will make you feel warm and fuzzy everytime you look down on your wrist, and check the time!

You may have a choice of Bezels at your AD, (i did when i bought mine, pepsi, coke, or black, i went for black) he may change these FOC, may not depending on the AD

I am so impressed with the GMT, it screams Rolex, not sure about this wiggle test though, tried it on mine and got the results tools suggested.

You can see that when you move/"fump" the mercedes hand, the red hand doesn't move much. If it's like this, then it passes the "wiggle" test.

BTW, since you're going to buy it from the AD, ask if he can throw in spare bezel inserts - the pepsi (315-16700-6), and the black (315-16700-1). This way, you can change bezels at will !!! They aren't expensive, approx USD40-50 I think, but you can't easily get them outside AD or RSC.
Worst case, if they don't throw in as freebies, buy them when you're at the AD.
