Vintage Lover's Top Ten List of why "You might have a problem"

Springer's Top Ten List of - reasons why you “might have a problem” because you love vintage Rolex

10 - You know there might be a problem when you can’t convince the wife that the price of vintage Submariner costs more than a new Submariner.

9 - You know there might be a problem when your recently acquired $50,000 vintage Daytona is worn out in public for month-after-month but never acknowledged by anyone.

8 - You know there might be a problem when you realize that you paid more for a stainless steel Rolex versus a comparable model that is 18K and stainless steel.

7 - You know there might be a problem when you realize that you paid an extra $5,000 for a watch because a couple of the words on the dial had red lettering versus an identical watch with white lettering.

6 - You know there might be a problem if you sit around in the easy chair at night looping the lugs of your newly acquired GMT-MASTER.

5 - You know there might be a problem when you consistently buy old, beat-up watches that “might” be unpolished.

4 - You know there might be a problem when you realize that you have purchased more vintage watches than you can wear in two lifetimes.

3 - You know there might be a problem when you can’t decide whether yellow patina or eggshell patina is for you.

2 - You know there might be a problem when you have to convince others that vintage watches are great investments.

. . . and the #1 reason that you might have a problem because you love vintage Rolex….

1 - You know there might be a problem when you realize you are without a life because you sit around at night worrying about whether the date wheel in your newly acquired vintage Rolex is original or not.

What is your top ten list?

You know there may be a problem if you spend more on a stainless steel vintage Daytona then on a brand new Daytona platinum.

You know there may be a problem if you have sleepless nights due to the suspicion that your matte dial 16750 is too high in serial number range based on one of the many charts available

You know there may be a problem if your 5512 still illuminates for a second when charged and you wonder if it's been relumed or if it's one of those rare transitional post-radium, pre-tritium dials from the mid 60s that still glow!

You know there may be a problem when you begin to prefer the clinks that your wrist makes from the non SEL tinny bracelet more than a newer fully solid glidelock model

This is too much fun, springer!

You know there might be a problem if you just pulled the trigger for a beauty but there is even a more beautiful one being listed on some website in the week of your purchase.

You know you might have a problem when you have more pictures of your watches on your phone than those of your family.

I am guilty of this! Gets a bit awkward when people asks to see updated photos of the family, whip out the phone and the first 30 recent photos are all watchporn...

Wow. That hurts. Everyone is true for me, short of deciding about creamy patina. . .I love it.

Yes. Stop now, refuse the mailman, go pickup up golf, far less addicting.

You might have a problem when you buy a car with manual transmission, no power windows, no sound insulation, no power steering, no radio, no AC, and no intermittent wipers so you can buy more watches instead.

Haha, is that your own list, Springer, or a somewhat jaded assessment of the 'hobby'!? The date-wheel-origins 'issue' rings a bell. Been around it too long!?

I reckon it could be argued that anyone has a problem if they desire any kind of Rolex at all. Certainly that any sort of collecting is an illness. When I was a kid, I had a friend whose mother collected hundreds of elephants; ceramic, stuffed, glass, leather... knitted; you name it. It just had to be elephant-shaped. I was a somewhat puzzled, and slightly perturbed.

It could certainly be argued that anyone reading this thread - or any other thread here, for that matter - has a problem.

So, I'm in big trouble.

P.S. You know you have a problem when you have the most-photographed and most-published left arm in the history of all mankind.

P.P.S. Today I'm wearing my unpolished 1675 with original date-wheel.
