You really have to try them on..

However, I'm one of those who just hasn't wwarmed up to the GMT IIc

Both are great watches. The Sub has the classic Rolex look, the GMTc has the "modern" Rolex aesthetics. I flip flopped between the 2 looks, and recently setlled on the GMTc. You just have to try both and see for yourself.

Were is the sub without the date option,

....... that's my choice.

BUT if I had to choose, I would chose the Sub date because like Larry, the GMT II is just not for me.

i have both, i tend to have the sub w date on my wrist most of the time. the gmt seems to be my travel watch... both are really nice, tough call....

This is a difficult one

I have had both.

But I chose the GMT IIc because I flipped my S/S Sub, for it.

Really tough call, I love the quintiscential ness of the sub, and the looks wow..... but id go for the usability of the GMT IIc, which is what id have, but it is a matter of if youd use it. If you dont travel, then id probably hit the Sub,

For looks though, .blusey...of course!

After posting my answer here, I will answer GMT2C, but in doing so, I had to make a few assumptions:

1. No cost to me, or cost was the same.
2. I still have my existing collection.
3. I could afford another Rolex right now.

Now, if the conditions were that I didn't have any Rolex, and I could have only one, and this would be my only watch forever, then I think I would probably choose the Submariner. But it would be a long hard look with both on my wrist over the course of an afternoon at the AD.

I also had difficulty deciding, and went for both. However, I find myself wearing the GMT II C more than the LV Sub as the Ceramic bezel is just amazing to look at.

I really like both but this 16610 isn't mine, it's my cousin's ex Subdate as he inherited it to his Dad. If I had to choose I would get both but the Sub LV + the GMT-IIc instead of the regular Subdate.

I have the 14060 and the 16610 is inbound, I tried on the GMTIIc today it is growing on me.. a step totally in a differnt direction, the GMT and GMTII never caught my eye, but the new GMTIIc is something else.. much up close and personal

Sub Date all the way...it's a pure classic. I am not sold on the GMT II-C...not feeling the supercase and ceramic bezel with the large numbers.

I have both also.....If Iwas buying just one it would definately be the GMT IIC
IMO it is the first 21st. century Rolex....the new bracelet is far better than the sub.The maxi dial looks stunning the ceramic besel is pure class and the polished center links add to the overall brilliance of this piece.

You will hear a lot of talk about "TOOL" watches

I think anyone that uses a £3200 watch as a beater has more money than sense..I have been wearing mine for a week and there are No marks on it

(having said that I have just found another sticker on the clasp

)

Just to finish off I tried an LV sub on yesterday and the bracelet just felt cheap

Both beautiful, IMO, however, I would plumb for the Sub w/date.

Mind you, as you can see from my signature, I already own a 16613 TT 'Bluesy' M series and, trust me, that is sex on a wrist!!!

I'm with walds. Iconic classic versus a watch on "steroids." I much prefer the original GMTs.

I'm still not liking how the the lugs blend in with the bracelet on the new GMT-Cs. Looks like the bracelet is undersized or wasn't designed in conjunction with the case.

My vote went to the SS Sub Date. It's a classic icon from Rolex!

The GMT IIc is nice, too, but I don't like the glossy ceramic bezel and polished centre links.
