AP v. Hublot
I am looking for some advice (although I already think I know the answer). I purchased a new AP and I want to sell another watch from my collection to fund it. I am deciding between selling an AP Rubberclad, Stainless Steel, Black Dial (H Series -- the last dial) and a Hublot All Black Ferrari. Any advice is appreciated.

Bye bye Hublot, for me Hublot is an expensive copy of AP ROO models, and when I say copy I really mean copy and not in a good way, keep the AP, please

Well if he bought it right, either grey dealer or even better pre owned, it will be ok, if he paid retail, ouch then yep it's gonna be hard, from what I've seen/heard, depending on model, you sell for 40 to 50% of the retail price, just really hope for the OP he bought it right

well, although i say the Hublot goes...perhaps you hit you'll take on price with it makes it not the best financial option to part with it (emotional feelings toward the brand aside)

Don't worry, I bought it right -- should not be much of a hit, if any! This is purely an ownership question, not a financial one as I should do the same with either. Just curious whether anyone has looked at these Hublot Unicos before. The movements are in house, the case designs and materials are complex, is it really so bad?

Besides making me think of an RO, the Hublot bezel/case also calls to mind the IWC Ingenieur. There are too many design elements filched from Genta designs for PP, AP, and IWC. Certainly, watch designs (like automotive) often liberally borrow from others, but these Hublots are perhaps a bit too derivative.

The fact that the head of Hublot, Mr Biver himself is an avid collector of Pateks says much indirectly about the value/brand equity of Hublots I feel. |

In my taste, that is very beautiful watch, I like the skeleton. I have it and its very very quality watch. When I wear it, many people asking what watch is it and they think its incredibly expensive. |

Thanks, Arnaud. Will be glad to replace the black Hublot with the new AP black ceramic diver I bought yesterday. A better way to go all black.

I saw that interview. It was interesting. The Nautilus is clearly an extremely high-end knockoff of the Royal Oak, but you rarely hear that stated in polite company. By the way, about 3-4 years ago, AP sent me a customer survey to fill out that asked all kinds of questions about my thoughts on AP and other brands. One of the major sections in the survey contained questions comparing AP to Patek and to Hublot. Questions related to which was the most event garde, which had the finest finishing, etc.

Hublot does get a tough rap here and I understand why as they are viewed as more fashion watches without much pedigree with mostly ETA mvmnts and yet a very high price. That said they are moving in the right direction and I quite like some of their designs, but I wouldn't pick a Hublot over an AP so would keep the RC.

This has been brought up here quite a few times and I'll say again that I don't believe Hublot is all that bad. They did give us the luxury watch on a rubber strap. And I love wearing my ROC, Daytona and PAM on their rubber straps, especially now in the summer.
But if you're talking about say having $20k to spend on an AP or Hublot, I will wholeheartedly agree with the masses and say AP by a landslide. |

I would also let the hublot go. I don't like them at all and feel no need to elaborate on why. It's a dead horse on trf. |

Not a fan of that perticular Hublot, but really love the brand in general, love this one that I most likely will own one day, but settled for the Diver for now ...
