New to Pans - Got a few questions
I'm looking at getting a Pan but don't know what to get. I know what I want but the models are confusing the more I look at it. (Must be that slow Texas thing. )
Anyway... I'm looking for an Auto and not manual, 44 mm and need it to be simple. The simpler the better. Doesn't even have to have a date. I would also perfer their own movement if possible. can someone suggest one to me? Also what's the difference of Luminor and Radiomir? I can't seem to locate the differences. I just need some education on these as I'm slowly growing to like them. |

Also just look at the face of the watch to see what a Luminor and Radiomir look like. Pretty obvious. Start at the crown. If you want an in-house automatic prepare to spend big $$. Google PAM p2003 and p2004. |

start here http://www.panerai.com/s_page.xpd?id...&id_sezione=37 but of their 4 internal movements, only the p2003 is automatic, so that limits you quite a bit. in fact it limits you to one; the 270. that is unless you want to get the same watch in gold or platinum.... forget about the internal movements, and there are quite a few nice ones. look at the 112 and 210 for the main differences between the two styles of watches. they are as plain as you can get (but still have the view backs) |

For some reason they go with PAM not PAN for the nickname.
Also you will see that they are very rare in many cases. A $5000 Rolex sells after marker for $4000, but a $5000 PAM sells for $6000! |

I am noob as well.....I originally was torn between the PAM177 and the PAM104. 177 is Titanium, hand wound, with a see-through back. The 104 is an automatic, polished steel, has date functionality, steel back. When all was said and done I ended up with a PAM233... Picked it up yesterday... Already lining up my next purchase PAM249.
My advice...look them all over, then do it again..when you are done..do it again. Read up on each, try them on...then decide. I hope you have as much fun as I did...best of luck to you. Marc |

Hey MrCowboy, if you're looking for a 1st Pannie, you might want to consider the PAM111. It's like their flagship Luminor series. The Radiomirs have the wire lugs for the watchstraps and no crownguards. I feel that Rads are a little more dressy and classic. The Luminors and Ferraris are bolder, thicker and heavier. Especially with the big and protective crownguard. Plus PAM's are pretty big watches. They average 44mm across. Quite a bit larger than a Rollie SeaDweller at 40mm across. I hope this helps. And, good luck with your first Panerai.

the 104 is the BEST base auto out there....and you can find them around 4k on paneristi.com ( the panerai TRF...so to speak!) Good luck, I love mine!

I ended up with the 252 Northpole GMT auto... Personally, my next PAM will prolly be the 233 or 270...i want one of the new inhouse movements as I just have a really hard time plunking down $5k or a refinished $100 ETA/UNITAS hand wind movement.... |

Sipho, once again some great pictures of your Pam. Could we have a couple of pictures with your Luminor next to your Rad ?
And welcome to TRF..... |

Well done Mr. T and welcome to the world of Paneristi's (as they say).
In the end, you have to get the model that smiles at you.

I too have been gravitating to Panerai. I like the crown guards and the 44mm I just want the date and power reserve but do not like the subdial or the sliding 8-day guage. I think changing straps would break the bank for me!!!
Enjoy your hunt for a Panerai!

One of my mates picked one up...nice silver hands as opposed to the plain black colored ones on a lot of the entry level models... You will love almost any of them! |

After doing research, this si what I was looking for...
1. The dial of a PAM 112 (with all four number showing) 2. Automatic like a PAM 104 3. And a 44mm. Right now I'm leaning towards the PAM 104 as I don't want to wind everyday even tho this is not going to be everyday anyway. |
