Rarest Rolex

Just curious, what is the rarest Rolex to you?

Rare=hardest to find, most competitively priced, and seemingly impossible to acquire

Probably this and the white dial Sub. The SS DD was never meant to be sold though

Yeah,...I've been told there were three examples by some collectors. Though I have no way of verifying.

Rarest as in impossible to find one for sale even if you had a spare £400k: single red sea-dweller (only a handful known to exist).

http://monochrome-watches.com/uber-r...65-500m1650ft/

Rare and desirable and available to buy if you have a spare six figure sum hanging around: one of those superb 1950s moon-phase watches.

Have to agree with the Seadweller, according to the article only 6 are known today. You won't find one here in the for sale section

We're downright lousy with Milsubs compared to some other models.

A 9630 below #100

I've been hunting it for 37 years, found #864 and #504.

Here are a few. Watchanish posted this photo about a year ago. He lists a few: prototype green dial 16528 and 6265 made for Bugatti, Deep Sea special, tropical Milgauss, 6241, Comex Sea-Dweller and white gold bark bracelet Submariner with purple dial. It was mentioned that this is only 1% of the owners watch collection and that all of these watches pictured are in NOS condition.

As did I when I first saw this. He was supposed to do a full write up on this website but unfortunately it never happened. The collector was from Dubai, it's just jaw dropping some of the pieces he has. Here is another pic with more watches. Apparently he has some prototype movements as well.

Not as expensive as others listed here, but a watch that you rarely see for sale: a 1665 Great White with the mark 0 dial:

A 6542 PanAm white dial desk pilot GMT. Rare enough that there is some disagreement on whether it ever existed. Rolex, of course, is of no help and has never confirmed nor denied if the watch was actually produced.

Not so fast, don't spend all your prize money just yet. The Steve McQueen Explorer II is even rarer. Not sure if even Steve McQueen himself ever saw it.
