Answering the "Is that Rolex Real?" question?

I have only had my watch for about 10 days but I have already been hit with the "Is it a real or a replica?" Question. I told the person Its fake and I bought it for $50 at the flea market before walking away. Lol I figured if someone sees me driving a nice new Mercedes they would know I wouldn't buy a fake watch. What do you guys say without sounding like a Douche?

The only person outside of friends and family that has even asked about my watch asked this question.

It annoyed me that they thought I would wear a fake. I told them it was real and left it at that.

I dont think any good can come from saying its real. I would say its real if its soneone I trust and fake to a stranger. If its someone im trying to impress I would say that its a fake sarcastically.

It depends on who it is.

I told my wife all my watches are fakes. Except the Grand Seiko, which i told her is "just" a Seiko. ;)

I don't know to whom this quote is attributed, but I've always liked it.
"Never complain, never explain".
It's funny how some people expect an answer from another person regardless of the question they pose. It's like they insert their little quarter, and expect an answer to pop out. And many times we oblige them.
To questions I don't like, or slightly disrespectful comments, from strangers, I'll say "Do I know you?". Question back. They stumble for an answer. And if it's no, I say "I didn't think so."
The very few times I've used it, it works.

Do I know you is a great answer lol I'll give it a go if I'm ever in the unfortunate situation again

Hahaha! I've thought about doing the same. Luckily mine are all divers and 'they all look the same' according to her. So half dozen watches becomes 1 :-)

I've gotten some compliments but never been questioned on authenticity. People do stare sometimes though. I bet the question crosses their mind.

IMHO. Pretty sure, newer Rolex units have a laser etching [for identification] on the saphire located at 6 o'clock position. As, I tried to show in photo below. Sorry, my pics are still crude at this point. Others probably chime in on this too. cheers

The LEC (laser etched crown) you are referring to is also seen on fake rolexes these days....even the movements are being decorated to look like real rex movements.

It's been a while since I was spotted as a Rolex wearer. Most recent question was about my DD, "is that real gold?" I said it's a real watch and left the question hanging. Frankly no one needs to know the cost or details of my personal life unless I want them to. Same with my Harley; once someone almost wanted to get into a fight because I wouldn't tell them the cost. More horse's asses out there than horses and that's for certain.

I've been asked twice at bars once by a girl regarding my GMT and once by a guy regarding my navitimer some years ago. Both times I was stupid enough to tell them "of course."

Not the brightest but I figure who the hell would admit to a fake anyways. That and I was comfortable with my surroundings on both occasions.

Never been asked about my Rolex watches, but strange enough after "nice Harley" - "what did it cost ?".

I'm far more concerned with being mugged than admired so unless I know the person I will tell them it's a fake.

One would think, but don't kid yourself. I know a guy who drives a newer model Mercedes and bought a fake TT black sub. He bought it just for fun and doesn't hide the fact that it is fake. He could easily afford a PM Rolex or two and is currently educating himself on the Rolex brand and models and is looking to get one in the near future.

As for what to say if someone asks...anything you want that fits the situation. If it's not a serious situation, I wouldn't take it seriously. If its not a friend or not someone who would like to steal your watch, they probably don't care.

Reminds me of when a woman told me "must be nice" (in my opinion one of the most ignorant things you can say) regarding my new apartment. I told her "it really is" and closed the door

Who cares. Tell them it's real.

While relatively expensive and a great watch, it's super common.

Owning a Rolex means nothing more than the fact that you have a nice watch.
