Icon20 Richard Mille

Had the amazing opportunity to try on a couple of Richard Mille's at the weekend. Amazing amazing watches, absolutely incredible. I read all the time that photos do not do them justice and now that I've seen them in person I can 100% confirm this to be correct.

Please enjoy the short video I recorded of my experience. I tried my best to capture the amazing light reflections of all the hand polished finishes at different angles.

Exceptional watches. I need to find a gently used RM11 some day.

Well it didn't also for me at first, same for the Nautilus and for ROO's, but that changed and it's a good thing when it takes you some time to like something, it's like songs, a very commercial song you usually like when hearing the first time but you grow quickly tired of it, whereas non commercial songs take some time to be appreciated and you will continue to do so even after hearing it many times, I feel it's a little bit the same for watches and other things, I got the Nautilus, the ROO and would love to get a RM, but won't happen anytime soon I'm afraid, but that's ok, more than happy with my duo

And about these 2 the first one in pics I didn't like very much but on vid it's already much more tempting, I am sure that in real life it's amazing

Yes they are amazing watches. I also had the pleasure of trying on the super rare Yohan Blake tourbillon watch. I didn't get a video of it but I got a few pictures. This watch is abit love/hate for most, it's obviously not the most conventional looking piece with it's 'seaweed' case. But it is absolutely stunning in person. A true pleasure on the wrist. So so light, it was by far the lightest piece they had in the Richard Mille boutique in London (they didn't have any Nadals in stock due to 'overwhelming demand')
Truly amazing piece, and this was one of the last ones ever made with a serial number very close to 50. It's still for sale, just wish I had a spare $612,000. Insane money for an insane watch.

Obviously neither cheap nor poorly made.

Time to brush up on your watch manufacturers...you might need some help so here

I understand very well that it is neither cheap nor poorly made.
But it looks cheap and poorly made. For that much money you would think they wouldn't make it look like a cheap toy.

Plastic green goo. That watch is a hot mess.

Honest question: do you just come on here to try and prod people that like different things than you do?

With the level of finishing and materials that RM puts in, and if you ever had chance to hold one, it can't LOOKS cheap and poorly.

It can looks ugly, childish etc to some, but not cheap and poorly made...

I do agree that this particular model does look 'toyish'. But that's the great thing about it. You could wear this watch anywhere, you could walk through the roughest areas of the world and a potential mugger wouldn't even give this $612k watch a second glance. You couldn't do the same with a $2k Air King, let alone a gold sub or presidential. That's what the super wealthy want these days, they want stealth and they also want exclusivity, they want the knowledge that they can travel the world and will not see another one in the wild.

On the technical side of things, rest assured that Richard Mille is as high as it gets. I read somewhere that Richard Mille invest more into the creation of their screws than some really high end swiss brands invest into entire movements. And it's not uncommon to find them using components that are made from space age materials that even NASA struggle to acquire. These components would literally be much cheaper if they were just made from solid 24k gold. Crazy brand, crazy ideas and a massive divide of opinion for alot of people.

But this watch is a great paradox, it looks like a $10 toy, but is on a higher level of watchmaking perfection than a Patek Philippe. And the best thing is, you can wear this 24/7 as a beater. Wear it anywhere. No one will swipe it off your wrist.

This is a great overview, but I'd add that part of its paradoxical nature is that it's chameleon-like. Ok, I suppose that's not a paradox per se, but bear with me. The watch looks how you want it to look. Throw on genes and a t-shirt and it looks casual and sporty. Tuck it under a suit or dress it up with a nice button down and it looks classy and substantial. Best of all, it's so light and easy to wear. With my APs, the first thing I do when I get to work is take them off so I can type, etc. I wear my Mille all day without remembering it's on.

What an unnecessarily rude thing to say to someone with different and Id argue more advanced taste than you have.

Certainly not cheap or poorly made

That said, not to my taste. I guess something fun for the collector who has several RM
