Well it seems I'm about to take the step.
After years of deliberation (I'm still happy with my 15 year old Breitling) it seems I can stand it no longer.
This time next week I will have bought one of 3 Rolexes - I've yet to decide which. I like the BLNR. I like the older style Yachtmaster (silver dial) - are they still currently produced? I also like the new blue dial Yachtmaster. Decisions, decisions I will obviously be trying on all 3 and will choose the one that's most comfortable / looks the best on me. I have a skinny wrist (just over 7 inches) so will just have to see what they wear/feel like. Any pointers or suggestions for me bearing in mind that it will be my first Rolex purchase? Thank you all |

Try them on as many times as you need to be certain. Almost congrats!

Thanks but not sure about the incoming as such.
The chances are I'll bring it home on my wrist and send the Breitling in for service while I'm there. I could parcel it all up again and post some (probably amateur) photographs. I'm no David Bailey (or Jocke) though! |

I'm curious why DJ2, Daytona and Sub did not make the final list?

What model Breitling do you own? Unless it's a Superocean, it would seem you already have a pilot's watch. The BLNR gets a lot of well deserved love on this forum but if you have something that already fills that niche, then I'd recommend the Yachtmaster. The Yachtmaster is great time piece that can be both dressy and casual depending on what you wear with it.

I have a Colt Ocean, so a diver's watch but in all honesty I don't think it'll get any wear at all from next week.
That's only fair really as it's only been off my wrist for a few weeks in 2007 when it went to Breitling for service. It's certainly due a rest! |

Then maybe the BLNR is the best choice for you. I posted in another thread that I am of the humble opinion that the BLNR is the best all round watch Rolex makes at the moment. It can handle land, air, or water. I fear your Colt will go the way of my Navitimer once you expand your Rolex collection.

Thanks Evan, I'm sort of leaning that way myself, but it will probably be the one that feels best on me.
As for expanding hmm not sure about that - but I suppose everyone says that :-) |

The Ym with blue dial and red second hand gets me every time. I'd go with that.

Tough call. The BLNR would probably work well as it is a very different look in comparison to your colt (bezel primarily) where the YM has the monochrome appearance.
Obviously if the ceramic bezel is not your thing than the decision would be a whole lot easier. |

I can only recommend based on my personal preference, and as long as I can remember, when I first noticed the Rolex name, it was the GMT that caught my eye, defined the brand for me (although I've yet to acquire one!)
To me the GMT is more versatile from a functional point of view and it's more suitable for a wider range of casual, business and sporting activities. And, of course, the Blue/Black bezel is striking. Good luck with your decision.

I personally think that the GMT is a very good choice for a first Rolex. That's not the route I took, but in hindsight, I think it makes sense. I wouldn't, however, go back and do things differently. I just advise differently.

I'm sure that both of them will be nice on your wrist. The 116622 looks more classy and the BLNR are excellent in every thing. Buy what you like bro!!

They're all great watches and you can't go wrong. Perhaps the BLNR as it is currently very popular. See what sort of deals can be had if any. That might help make your decision for you.

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice guys.
I'm quite looking forward to the AD experience and to making the final decision. There are worse decisions in life than choosing a Rolex. |

The Colt Ocean is a great watch, that was my first mechanical watch too.
I think trying them on will make the decision easy for you. The case of the Yachtmaster is different than the GMT case. It's a little more sleek, with smooth edges. They're both awesome, but feel different on the wrist. Let us know what you decide, and post pics! |
