Where did I go wrong (lol jk)

Let's see, I have a bachelors degree, a masters degree, finished in the top of my class, worked on becoming a Marine Corps Officer and then became a Police Officer. I see people posting pictures of 100k$ worth of watches, and 25k$ watch purchases for the heck of it etc.

Good for you guys. Mass props! I'm proud of the job I do, and love it dearly, but hell, I've still got 38,000$ in student loan debt and don't make half of what some of you make ha ha ha ha ha.

I just want to give all of you a thumbs up to those who have "made it." Granted, my wife and I don't live "bad" and we also have a $200k house which in my area consists of 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, and a decent amount a property, but danggggggg would it be nice to buy a watch like some of you, just because it feels right.

Paid off two cars 09 WRX, and 14 GMC Terrain, but wow.....

Once again, not complaining. Just complementing those of you "who can."

Keep the watch pictures coming. I'm very impressed and actually enjoy being apart of such a diverse forum.

One watch is all you need.

I put all my spare cash to my watches as they are a relatively safe investment (second only to my house). My wife and I don't holiday, have no kids, and i don't have a cleaner or ironing person, do all that myself. Allows me to live out the watch dream, but I know if push comes to shove most can be liquidated if required.

You don't need to buy and sell all the time to enjoy TRF or others watches.

Bit of a bugger about student loans, we don't really have that type of burden in Australia. We pay partial contribution to University, part that gets paid back as you start to earn.

How true.

No Kids here either, we'll we're only in our early thirties, but a busy work schedule keeps us from having them.

Investment wise my business, our house and watches. I've only got three at the moment, but sure three expensive ones.

I too enjoy and constantly amazed by the watches some of our members here post.

Diversity is what it is. Some folks are born with billions of euros. It's just the way life is.

Amen to that (no kids) except for my two German shepherds. (One is my police k9 that goes to work with me).

My hobbies are screwing around with my Subaru WRX (paid off in one year), my house mortgage, gun collection (actually a great investment) and now Rolex watches. I was fortunate enough to buy 2 back to back lol. Time to take a break but someday I wouldn't mind trading up for one BLNR.

Heck I traded up most the way from my previous less expensive watch collection. Black and Blue stand for Police so if I could eventually trade up to a BLNR with cash, I would be in heaven.

(Except student loans, I hate student loans).

Oh I know. This is mainly a joke thread. Everyone has a purpose in life. I am perfectly happy with who I am etc.

The wife and I don't have kids either so I/ we are able to live comfortably.

I was just showing my wife some of the watches here and she was going "holy mother of ****" lol. Im content.

Just a funny thought.

Welcome to TRF Tye.

With a bit of imagination you can be anything you like here.

I'm a much sought after male model with unlimited funds.

We should catch up for a chardy sometime.

Everyone's circumstances will be different and the fact some people have the spare cash to indulge in serious watch buying could be down to a multitude of factors.

Indeed, I have some clients that have barely worked a day in their lives and just live of Trust Funds or inherited money. Working through college, university, passing professional exams and building a career or business is definitely the hardest way to acquire surplus cash...... but probably the most rewarding.....

You also have to consider the "sensible" factor since many people I know who are into watches and could afford to blow mega amounts on them simply don't...... they buy property, holiday homes, income producing assets, max out their pensions and tax efficient investments, pay for school fees for children and grandchildren, help maintain less fortunate members of their extended family, contribute to charities...... the list goes on........

I must admit that whilst I love seeing all the fantastic watches TRF members have, we do now live in a world where some people are almost in competition on a global basis to show off their wealth which, to me, is a slightly worrying trend....... But with IG and FB and other such means of displaying your trappings of wealth, this is not going to stop anytime soon........

There will also be other people who are simply glory hunters and just pretend to own such watches and perhaps work for an auction house or an AD/jeweller etc. etc. Just my 2 cents.....

People go down different paths due to a mix of complex factors.
This is a great place to vicariously enjoy the indulgences of others as long as you don't take any of it too seriously.
Some here are only legends in their own lunchtime.
Enjoy what you have.

Ha - Seems DJ (above) and I see it much the same way.

So, did you serve in the Marine Corps? You said you worked on becoming a Marine Officer.

Just curious.

You sound like you've got your act together and I have a feeling it won't be long before you get to post up INCOMING.

Like the above poster said, it only takes one watch. Good luck

Where did I go wrong (lol jk)

I'm not complaining. Just having a fun discussion.

Grady. I went to Marine Officer Candidate School two summers in a row and ended up getting injured and having surgery. Before the 3rd go around I got hired as a cop and knew it was a sure thing.

It's actually pretty cool to see everyone's backgrounds. This is the first forum I have been on with such a diverse group of people.

It's very interesting.

That's tough. I broke my fibula in boot camp and spent four weeks in casual company under the command of then Capt. Charles Krulak.

I tell you, I'd rather do four years in boot camp than even one day in casual.

I had the honor of serving coffee to GySgt Jimmie Howard who was awarded the MOH that day and several General Officers who were crammed into the captain's tiny office.

I managed not to spill anything, so of course, I was not acknowledged in any way.

I have an interesting story about Capt. Krulak that made a lasting impression on me, but maybe later.

Unfortunately at OCS there was no recycle platoons. Once you got hurt they said go home and try again next year. Obviously this is just because they have a summer boot camp and a winter boot camp "essentially".

I was at OCS with Col. Chase. Hell of an officer. Apparently he is at the Pentagon doing something high up now.

That's awesome about the Gunny with MOH.

It's crazy how "small life experiences" can change ones life forever.

I'm sure.

I've been through more as 5 years as a cop than I would wish upon anyone who completes a career.

I feel for you, brother. I did 8 years as an Army officer with several deployments and would have gone career if I hadn't been hurt in Afghanistan. In the military (especially in jobs where you're a grunt) staying in one piece physically and avoiding injuries is a big part of being successful. Even though I was able to transition into a great career and have a better work/life balance, I miss the military. Interestingly enough, the wife misses being a military spouse as well. It was a special time in our lives that we will always harken back to.

As far as the financial and watch buying thing, Rome wasn't built in a day. Work through those student loans as fast as you can, start putting $ away into retirement accounts, start attacking the mortgage. I strongly suspect you're the kind of guy whose on the right path just based on what you said about paying off the cars. Keep at it, and one day you'll look up and be in a place financially where you can go get that grail watch (after you've gotten the wife something nice, of course).

Cheers.

I was in a Bob Evens restaurant in central Ohio back in the early 2000s for breakfast. An old man walked through the door and everyone in the whole restaurant stood up. It was as if Queen Elizibeth had walked in.

After everyone sat down, I asked the waitress who the man was. She gave me a very matter-of-fact look and said "that's Col. Paul Tibbets".

An amazing experience to say the least

Oh I will argue that I have he best job in the world. Sure tons of things about r sucks, but it's for me. There are plenty of things out there that I'm sure some of you do, that I would absolutely hate.

I was kidding about where I went wrong though.

Wow. Meeting the pilot of the Enola Gay. That would be insane.

When I joined here I only had 1 Rolex and now a few years later I have 4 and my income hasn't really changed it's just been more diverting funds away from other things and patience, saving and discipline. I'm sure if you stay on this forum for a couple of years you will find a way to buy watches you never thought you would too.

Well one of the rules I had to get the Rolex for our anniversary etc was I had to get rid of the rest of my watch collection. Tons of Seiko and Citizen watches.

Welcome to the club

LOTS of current and former LEOs around here

Stay out of harm's way, Brother

FYI my duty watch for 10 years was (the older version of) a TAG HEUER quartz Aquaracer. Except for tactical ops when I needed it to not reflect, it was on my wrist all over the world. Citizens and civilians hardly noticed it.

Reylet, I bought my first Rolek at 52 y.o. Too many responsibilities to take care of before feeling comfortable enough to get one.

Have similar feelings as the OP a lot of the time. It is so important to just keep some perspective on what's important.

Just busted my ass at medical school and now about to bust some more as a doctor and in the UK that doesn't mean as much financially as in U.S.! I do sometimes think wow, i will never be able to afford that stuff. But instead try really hard to just enjoy the pics and enjoy what I work hard earning and buy watches responsibly.

At the end of the day this is all a material game, a fun one but there are more important "real" things to worry about

Absolutely.

Material is material. I've got stories out of the wazoo, and those are what really mean things.

Hey, Tye! Not all of us here are rich. I'm far from it and only own one Rolex, my faithful 16610. I would love to be able to acquire more Rolex watches (the 116718 is my grail watch) but with two kids in college, a wife who has been out of work for 2+ years due to a work injury, my funds are very, very limited. That certainly doesn't make me feel substandard or less than others here!
I have found the people whom I've met here on TRF to be wonderful! I even flew out to Vegas in February for a GTG (get together ) and got to meet some of the members I regularly chat with here and they were a GREAT group of guys! I'm also planning a meet-up soon with Cop414 (Tim) as we keep in pretty close touch with each other either here or by phone. Same with Gerardo G who I met in Vegas.
This is a fantastic community and it's about so much more than just watches. Last year when I had to undergo open-heart surgery, this forum rallied behind me and were a great source of motivation and comfort!
I never, not in a million years, would have thought I'd participate on any type of internet forum. I'm a pretty quiet and laid back guy but after I got comfortable here I reached out and have made some great friends here, even though most of us haven't met YET!!!!
From the posts I've read from you, your going to fit in with this bunch fine! I know members here who make more in a month than I probably will my entire life but here, on TRF, we all the same. Just a big, usually happy group of like-minded people who just love their Rolex'!!!!!
Welcome!!!! And thank you for the work you do! Be careful out there!
