The New Day-Date 40

Rolex were kind enough to send over the new Day-Date 40 for me to have a good look at. Let me know your thoughts, you can read mine right here

Hi

My honest opinion is that the face is just plain tacky. That plus the fluted bezel and a heavy gold bracelet with PCLs makes it look vulgar.

A plain face would improve it somewhat.

Regards

Mick

I am referring to that particular watch which has a very dramatic dial and is made of yellow gold. That is totally different from the two conservative models that you listed.

Mick

That blue dial is nice... same pattern as the gold, I think.

Different strokes for different folks. I supposed if we all liked the same thing there would not be any variety of watches on our wrists and we would all have the same thing. Not sure I want to live in a communist state where we all have identical watches.

I like this piece, and there are others I find vulgar.

What in the....
Yellow gold DD is now "tacky", with PCLs and fluted bezel are vulger.....you lost me.

This watch comes almost exclusively in that configuration, the only difference in the op is the dial. What do you want, a DD without a fluted bezel, no PCLs and not in gold, that's not even a DD then.

The new dial looks good to me but I would imagine in real life on the wrist it does not broadcast the diamond pattern like macro dial photos, I would bet this watch plays with light and angles so well that the dial fades into something that glistens and shines, much in the same way the sunburst dial of the Sub LV(imagine that dial in gold). Just a different play on the dial treatment.

I'm starting to really like this new dial more and more, especially in the glacier blue.

Me too. Maybe it's the English-major-that-never-was in me, but I couldn't get past the opener. OP, do you have an editor? There's a lot that could be cleaned up in that write-up.

Really.

OP, have you never heard of the watch below?

You really should do some research before you hit the keyboard.

Hi Folks, I was in Newcastle UK and AD in town centre very helpful, even though they knew I was visiting and would buy in The Netherlands. Tried on DD 40mm YG and then big surprise as the AD said try 36mm in RG with diamonds. Really like the 36mm. Will try 40mm again when my Dutch AD gets one, but the 36mm was fab. 40mm all yellow was also too much and needs a different colour dial

Very nice. I am waiting on a call from my AD to see them. The YG/RG with that face looks very elegant and could be my favorite or maybe a ALS Lange 1. However, I did rather like the look of that 1956 6511 best of all...!!!

I saw this the other day in Switzerland -
At first I didn't register that it was the 40...it seemed to have similar look as the DD2.
wider bezel, thicker lugs.

I love the DD2 (won't be trading mine in for a 40) ... But I have to say I was surprised...

If not for the dial, I wouldn't have realized that it was a DD40 - the Dial is better in person...But overall not that much of an overhaul...(although new movement is always nice)

We just had an event at our AD, the white gold blue dial is very nice.

I think the DD40 has a lot going for it, but I'm not a great fan of that patterned dial.

Tacky and vulgar works for me

Still prefer the DDII though, perhaps because it's even more tasteless ; )
