DJ2 Clasp Question

Hello guys,

I have a new DJ2 that was bought as a wedding gift for me just a month or so ago. I wore it a lot on my honeymoon including in the sea and in the pool.

Now, please excuse the terminology... towards the end of the honeymoon I noticed that the spring-loaded catch on the clasp that you flick up to open the bracelet when it's on your wrist feels really grainy and I can hear the spring inside creaking as I lift it.

I washed the watch with fresh water thoroughly after the time I wore it during the day as I didn't want salt/chlorine remaining on the watch, so I'm not sure it would be salt that's dried the spring and I'm wondering that it might be purely coincidental.

If I submerg the clasp in water for a while and open and shut the spring part of the clasp a few times the creaking and grainy feel stops, but after a while it comes back - I guess when the spring has lost the moisture of the water.

My Sub C clasp glides open when I flick up the spring - feels like silk and is silent regardless, a contrast.

Has anyone else come across this? If it's normal I'll leave it. I was wondering if I should pop it down to the RSC in London so they can take a look.

I'm not keen on parts getting removed and exchanged by them, whilst I know that may be an obvious solution I would prefer it if they can oil it or something instead?

Thoughts would be welcomed

Thanks in advance!

I would take it into RSC or a reputable watchmaker to take a look at it.

There's nothing spring loaded on a DJII clasp. If you are talking about the bit that lifts up at the front, that uses two small levers to release the clasp. It is just a hinge, and there is nothing complex going on there. Could just be the levers sliding against the clasp, which eventually will wear two smooth marks on the curved part of the clasp or there is a bit of grit in the hinge which can probably be cleaned out by running it inder the faucet.

Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly - there is a spring on the clasp end, the lever part has some kind of spring. When you bend the lever upwards you have resistance due to the spring - this can be with the bracelet closed or not, mine now has a very grainy feeling and creaking sound.

I stand corrected, apparently newer DJIIs do have a spring in the clasp.
