interesting tudor sub on ePrey, just went up this morning - seller can't identify the model (i've asked) but it appears to be a 7021 - blue dial with snowies, in horrible shape. I assume it's a 7021 because of the serial number & the movement and that's the interesting part, movement number is visible in the shots and it's a 2483 ETA - according to that reference chart out there & the 1973 R20 catalog, the correct mvmt is a 2484.

And the watch is in such crappy shape, don't suspect anyone's pulling a scam

this will be about the 3rd time there has been a Tudor sub with an "incorrect" mvmt. On the Forumamontres, there's a poster, Dynamo, that appears to be something of a tudor expert with a number of 7928 subs, and one has a 2452 ETA mvmt (correct mvmt should be a 390), and then there was that 9401 dial i had purchased in that grab bag auction, that came in with a 2773 mvmt attached, where both the R20 catalog and that chart call for a 2776 movement. Seller in that case was a retired rolex watch repair agent, and couldn't remember where/how that movement came to be attached to the dial (both appeared new), but said it would have been sourced from rolex svc center.

Considering the casebacks we've seen out there that were marked with different model numbers than the case's model, i'm wondering if there weren't times that certain movements were in short supply, and tudor simply substituted other eta movements with the same dial feet position, to keep production flowing.

someone else speculated offline to me, that a rolex agent had told him that tudor, for the US market, would substitute mvmts with only 17 jewels, to avoid higher US Customs duty on 25 jewel mvmts (i know about the 25 jewel customs tariff, as on a 7016 i purchased overseas, Fedex customs called me to ask me exactly that, how many jewels did the movement have).

Curious if anyone has seen similiar movement discrepancies?
