audemars vs rolex
hey guys... im looking forward to buy buy my first watch...

In this case I would take the AP. it's a beautiful piece regardless of dial color. I'm not a fan of the black SS daytona

They are really different watches. The Daytona is a nice watch especially the black dial and is probably more useable and robust for everyday use. The AP is a step up from a Rolex. Much less common and more unique. The finishing on them is second to none. However while it could be an every day watch too I would argue it's not quite as robust plus service costs on AP are pretty steep.

Daytona > AP 15400, but! AP ROC > Daytona.
I'm a big fan of complications (except when it comes time to servicing). And the black dial 116520 Daytona is my favorite of all Rolex models. Seriously! If I won a Platona or President or SkyD, I would sell it immediately to fund the 116520 and keep the change. Okay, fantasy, I know. But you catch my drift? The stainless Daytona black dial rocks! |

AP in this case, I found the black dial Daytona very difficult to read on my wrist

If it were me, and it's not, I would get the Royal Oak, it is THE dressy sport watch IMHO. Then consider a gently used Speedmaster Pro when finances permit. I don't know, but suspect, that the Speedy isn't as popular in Europe as the US, but I like it more than the Daytona and the price compared to the Daytona, is reasonable. Again, just my opinion, but feel free to make it yours. I don't see you being disappointed with either choice.

AP for me. It's painful to scratch the bezel, but if you take relatively good care of it there's no problems.
If the Daytona had a ceramic bezel and brushed center links it would have my heart and wallet. Until then...

Daytona is more durable and reliable, and requires service every 10 years. If you are rich, go for the AP and be prepared for service costs.

I live here in the DC area and the Sub is almost common as the potholes in the winter.

Actually I have only seen 2 Royal Oaks in DC since owning mine for almost a year..... A lot of offshores, but few Royal Oaks.

I had a Daytona as an only watch for 18 months, and I traded it towards a 15400 black dial 2 months ago and haven't looked back. I wasn't a RO fan, but the AD insisted I try one on. Once I did, I didn't want to take it off, and my Daytona lost a lot of luster. You just can't beat the fit, finishing, and the RO bracelet. This watch is perfect for the office with the seamless clasp (Daytona's protrudes and is bulky) and low profile, it just slides under the shirt cuff; while the 41mm lets it be a bit sporty too with short sleeves. Oh, and the dial is gorgeous, especially under a loupe. For those that say it isn't suitable as a daily are just flat wrong - unless they are professional divers. The WR resistance isn't as good as a Daytona, but the watch can handle showers or a dip in the pool. I'm reading the Royal Oak Anniversary Book now, thanks to Thomas, and having adequate water resistance was a requirement in the watch design. As far as scratches go, due to the PCLs, scratches are WAY more prevalent on the Daytona than the RO. The slimmer profile also keeps it closer to the wrist and out of harms way. It does hurt more when a scratch does happen, but that's because the watch is so beautiful and pricey. But mine looks better than my Daytona did after the same amount of time. As far as servicing costs, the Daytona is about $850, and the RO is about $1100. Not a huge difference over a 5-7 year time span. My only regret about making the switch?
