Buying a Sea Dweller 4000 in the UK

I'm looking to buy a SD4000c in the very near future and don't want to pay the full £6,900 list price. What's the best way for me to go? TRF sellers are mainly outside EU so import duty is a risk, so I think I am looking at some sort of EU source?

By the way, the watch must be BNIB with full stickers etc.

Try some dutch or german trusted sellers, no taxes to be paid, prices are a lot better than in the UK.

RRP is £7'150 on the SD4000. Have you looked at WatchFinder & Iconic Watches? Links below

That is the incorrect RRP it's £6,900 in the UK as stated by the OP

The companies you listed have over exaggerated the RRP

Have you got a relationship with an AD. The SD is a steel sports but it's not the most popular steel sports. To the man on the street it's basically a sub that costs more. There might be some room to negotiate, especially if you avoid the big chain AD's.

Iconic for £6k is a nice deal.

WF rep is going downhill again on TZ-UK, would only buy new with stickers from them now not used.

£6100 from Iconic is likely to be the cheapest easy option.

I paid £5600 while on holiday in Greece earlier this year, and I've read (but not personally seen) that an AD in Schipol airport can supply them at £5000.

The Iconic is okay. I'd check if it comes with a green or red tag. Would certainly be prepared to spend a couple of hundred more for the green.

Hi - What do you mean green or red tag? The plastic tag that comes on the bracelet? Excuse my ignorance but why would green be more desirable?

The colour change signifies Rolex increasing its warranty to 5 years.

Tag colour really is irrelevant it's the date on the warranty card which would be the deciding factor in warranty period.

There's this one at watchcentre.com in London too, description says it's a July 2015 watch which would make it a 5 year guarantee but they state only covered until 2017???

I called watchcentre today and spoke to the guy there. Unfortunately he was a little vague about it and said he thought the warranty was two years and that Rolex hadn't changed to five years. I got the impression he didn't physically have the watch in front of him at the time.

I'd rather buy from the local AD but I'm not prepared to pay £1,000 over the top for the privilege.

Sorry, I missed this question, and since then the thread seems to have taken something of a downward turn.

To answer the question, no I haven't bought the watch yet. Not because I don't know where to buy it, but because I can't bring myself to spend the money!

I bought a SD 4000 on Tuesday from their London store. The price listed was the price I paid, no tax added https://www.chronext.co.uk/rolex/sea.../116600/002761

DavidSW is an awesome seller, who's reputation speaks volumes for the man. However, the Pound is weak against the US$ at the moment with £1 = US$1.52.

I picked up my D-Blue this weekend and paid full retail at £8,250. David recently advertised one BNIB at $13,000. With the exchange rate, that works out at £8,558, which is over £300 above the UK straight away. Then there's the possibility that UK Customs might hit you for 20% on top of that, which would make it a very expensive purchase.

That said, he's advertising a Sub C date at US$7,675, which works out about £700 cheaper than the UK retail price. If you're not stung by Customs, then that would be an excellent saving.

So he's not necessarily the cheapest by miles. It very much depends on what reference you're looking for, what the exchange rate is and whether or not you get stung by Customs.

When getting a watch shipped from outside the EU, the chances of having to pay VAT is pretty much 100%. Every single watch I've ever had shipped in went through customs (maybe around 50 examples). And it is 100% when someone ships it insured for its true value, something I assume the dealers here such as DavidSW will do.

Only way to avoid it is to go collect it yourself and walk the green line at the airport. But obviously this is illegal.
